Path of Exile 2 - Grim Pillars Build Guide with 4 Divines
632 segments
Hey everyone and welcome to another
build guide. So, I've been getting asked
quite a few questions. Is my build
budget friendly? So, what I've done is I
have built this character on a budget of
about four divines. So, I'm just going
to send one delirious map about 100%
deliriousness and we're also going to
fight Arbiter once just for the
showcase. And then I'm going to go over
everything. Also, in the pinned comment
below will be a list of trade links so
that you can build a character like this
yourself. But we will go over that in
just a moment. Now, for four divines,
you are not going to see like 20 million
DPS. We're really pushing the limits of
what four divines can do in this game.
Again, the DPS isn't going to be too
crazy. I just want to, you know, let you
know that this is possible. So, let's
see what we can do.
put down some totems.
And we just want to freeze this guy. A
lot of our damage comes from freezing.
Okay, so he's at 68%. I want to put down
my totems again.
He walks into them. He's frozen now. And
then now we get to do some real damage.
And that's phase one. Okay, now we just
have to freeze him again.
35%. He's moving a little bit.
Come on, freeze.
There we go. We should be able to finish
him off.
Only one totem was down.
Not too bad. Not too bad for four
divines input.
No big money draw. But now let's take a
look at a 80% Delirious map. Okay, so we
have Blooming Field over here. 78%
delirious. So, I think we can go in
here. We're going to run just a standard
breach tablet. Nothing too juicy. We
have an abyss tablet with extra rare
monsters. And then we're just running a
couple rituals as well. We'll throw in a
map. Increased monster life damage is
extra damage. You know what? Whatever.
And let's see what we can do. Now again,
the damage at four divines investment
could be a little bit better,
but you're going to see a lot of
rolling.
We can actually take down
this ritual first. Actually really enjoy
rituals with this character.
I don't normally roll this much. It's
just because I'm trying not to die. So,
we can set up the ritual. We put down
our two totems,
and then we can pretty much just hold a
left click, let the sparks detonate the
totems. Pretty weak ritual, but not too
bad. So, we're not going to do the
entire map. Let's just maybe do this
abyss. See how that goes. We're
currently at 80% of deliriousness. We
even have a rogue exile over here. Okay,
that abyss pit is closed. We have one
more ritual I think we can do. Okay,
that abyss pit has been closed as well.
Keep putting down our totems. Right
click to put down the totems or whatever
you keep buying to do. Of course, we
dodge roll because we're on a budget.
And then we just hold left click. Okay,
let's take down this exile.
Put down two totems. We hold left click.
We freeze it. And there it goes. And of
course, the DPS is going to be pretty
much the same throughout the rest of the
map. We're not even coming close to
dying. We have 90% deliriousness. Let's
do one more ritual together and then I
think we can just skip to the boss and
then we'll get to the, you know, what
makes the build work, what we're looking
for.
But again, I really do enjoy rituals
with this build. So much like AoE,
it just feels good.
All right. And this guy should have
quite a bit of damage reduction,
but we should be able to get him down
again once we we're just we just need to
freeze him.
There's 50%.
Of course, this boss has like four
phases, unfortunately.
But there's phase one.
Oh, wait. Phase two already started. I
was asleep at the wheel.
No, my totems. Stop bullying them.
All right, and that should be phase two.
Run ahead of this guy so we can set up.
Put down the totems.
And there's the boss. 100%
deliriousness.
Of course, we do have a breach over here
as well, but that is going to be pretty
much the same as the abyss. So, I think
we can just get into what makes this
build work. We'll do a little bit of
window shopping first, though. Why not?
I'd hate to leave you hanging, not
knowing what's in here. No mage blood,
unfortunately. The best features about
this build is it is a two-b button
build. We right click, we left click, we
use spell totems. They summon grim
pillars for us, and then we detonate
them with spark. You can use anything
you want. I've just been using spark. I
know some people like to use entangle.
So, whatever you use, that is completely
up to you. But we can take a quick look
at our skills. And you'll notice that
I'm not using one support in both spark
and spell totem. I also left this socket
open. Why did I do that? So, my gems are
level 21. And again, there's four
divines invested in this build. So, I
just didn't want to like make new gems,
swap over my supports, and all that. So,
because my gems are two levels higher
than, you know, a level 19 gem that you
can pretty much make for free, what I
did is I just took out two levels. So,
normally I'd be using plus one level of
lightning skills here, plus one level of
cold skills here, and then we could
socket the plus one level of all spell
skills in here. So, again, because my
gems are level 21, I've effectively
scaled them down to be level 19. And
now, with that being said, you can see
the skills we're using. Because I'm a
blood mage, I get life remnants for
free. And this is just a lot of sustain.
But I'd say you don't really need that.
Again, because I'm a blood mage, I'm
converting my spark cost to life cost,
but depending on your ascendancy, you
don't really need to do that. So, we can
see the other three skills that I'm
using. Again, I'm using spark to
detonate my grim pillars. And then in
spark, we just have pierce. We have a
little bit of projectile speed. We have
a little bit less cast speed, but a
little bit more damage. We want Spark to
deal a little bit of damage just so that
they can detonate the pillars. So, this
does make somewhat of a difference. And
then I'm just using life tap again
because I'm a blood mage, but you don't
need to use this. And then we're just
using spell totem. My spell totem is
actually only level 18 because of the
strength requirements. And then we just
have a little bit of totem cast and
attack speed and 100% increased totem
placement speed. This is a big support
gem. You absolutely need this. I'm using
50% more maximum life for my totems.
This will just help keep them alive. And
then I have grim pillars. Again, this is
level 21, but I'm not using plus one
level of cold skills and I'm not using
plus one level of all skills in here.
And then you can see I'm getting eight
levels from global modifiers. And we'll
go over the gear in just a moment. And
then I have magnified area too. Just a
little bit more area of effect. And then
I highly recommend mana remnants. This
is just so much sustain. It does cost 30
spirit. And inside we just have
increased effect. And we can collect
remnants from a little bit further away.
We're actually using these same two
supports in life remnants. But that
covers the skills. Now again, this is
the budget setup, so I also want to just
take two seconds to mention the
expensive setup. We're going to go over
my gear as well in just a moment. Now, a
semi more expensive setup. Of course, if
you have level 21 gems, if you're not
scaling yourself down on purpose like I
am, we have cold mastery. So, we can see
this is level 20, one level from
corruption, eight levels from global
modifiers, we can put this in here. And
now it has those same levels, but it
also is getting plus one level from
support. Oh, and I guess it's also worth
mentioning that the damage on my grim
pillars is only 45,000 for the sake of
this showcase on a four divine budget.
Now, your number one priority should
always be getting like plus levels where
you can because each plus level is like
13ish% more damage. So, just by adding
one level over here, this should go to
over 50,000, 52,000. And then again, I
am using lightning mastery usually in
spark. And we can see the DPS increase
there. And then I don't normally use a
life tap. We have the lineage gem that
does the same thing while also providing
a little bit of extra damage depending
on how much life is spent casting the
spell. And then what you can also do is
we can take out magnified area and we
can swap that with Verona's Siege. We
lose 10% increased area of effect, but
we get 20% more damage with hits against
isolated targets. And that is so good
for bossing. So this is the expensive
setup for my gems. And now we can take a
look at my gear. So real quick, I want
to pull up the items and how much I
spent on everything. So I took
screenshots of everything. So I only
spent 87 exults on this amulet. And this
gear I threw together in an hour. So I'm
wasting a lot of modifiers on some
pieces of gear. and you'll see that in a
moment. My belt was 20 exalts, just a
little bit of resistance. The body armor
was the most expensive piece at one big
divine, but I need spirit. We're going
to go over that in just a moment. 40
exalts for the boots. I did craft on
plus 14 spirit. I'll explain how to do
that in just a moment. The gloves
basically free. 10 exalts over there. I
did socket in a little bit of added cold
res. One divine for a fairly [snorts]
large heart of the well double damage is
extra damage and crit chance. That is
not bad at all. And then the helmet was
basically free. Three exalts. We
continue. My jewels basically free.
About three exalts each. I bought five
of them. Ring one or ring two I guess.
25 exalts. Four chaos. So maybe like
half a div on rings. But again, I was
just looking for some resistances. And
we can see those wasted modifiers that
I'm talking about. This is doing so
little for me. But again, we threw this
together on a budget. This was the old
staff that I purchased. It has seven
level two cold skills. I later
downgraded to this one for five exults.
And this is the one that I'm currently
using that has five level of all skills.
So, I originally tested this to get a
couple extra levels from grim pillars,
but then my spark was just so weak. I
was having a hard time destroying the
pillars. So, if you're really on a
budget, I'd say like plus five level of
all spell skills or maybe even plus six.
That can get a little expensive, though,
because again, you do want like a little
bit of damage for whatever you use to
detonate to the pillars. So, I paid five
exalts for this staff that I used in the
showcase listed 6 days ago. And that
pretty much covers all of the gear that
I'm using. And we can even take one
quick look. We can see my resistances
are capped. Chaos res a little lower,
but of course, chaos damage is generally
more rare than elemental damage. And on
top of that, I also did get a little bit
of rarity on my gear. So, we're at 77%.
That should be like over 100% I would
say. But again, I threw this stuff
together in about an hour. So, we just
took down a 100% Delirious map. We took
down the Arbiter of Divinity on four
divines worth of gear with max res and
even a little bit of rarity. So, not too
bad at all. And then we can just take a
look at the gear. I don't think I want
to like spend too much time talking
about the budget gear because everything
that's budget just has like a little bit
of resistances and a little bit of
rarity. We have spirit on this. We have
plus level over here. But I think what
I'd rather focus on is not so much the
budget gear. Again, links to the budget
gear and the expensive gear in the
pinned comment below. But what I'd
rather focus on is what you should be
looking for when building this character
if you have, you know, 20 plus divines
to invest in it. my body armor compared
to the budget piece. They're pretty much
the same. I have spirit on both of them.
This one has double res. Mine has double
res lightning fire. And this one just
has a little bit more energy shield. I
also have life regen, which is kind of
nice. That could be another resistance
though. We'll put that on. We can take a
look at the helmet again. We have budget
with resistance, rarity, mana, and
energy shield. my helmet that I'm
currently using, resistance, rarity,
energy shield, mana. So, one is just a
little bit less energy shield and then
mine has just a little bit more. And
then we'll take a look at the gloves.
So, on budget, we again just have a
little bit of energy shield, resistance,
rarity, life, mana as well if you can
get it. And then on my gloves, again,
life, mana, rarity, resistance. That is
it. I do corrupt my gear for two
sockets. And then in my two sockets, I
have life cost efficiency. I think this
is like a one divine ancient augment.
And then [music] I just have 75 to
maximum life over here. But you can see
they're pretty much the same. And then
for the boots, I do want to talk about
the boots just a little bit. These
actually don't have rarity.
Unfortunately, I crafted off the rarity.
I would have liked it if the spirit took
away shock duration on the suffex, but
unfortunately it took away my rarity.
And then on my boots, I do have the
rarity. I have a little bit of chaos
res. I have the spirit, mana, and then
just some energy shield. And then even
these, you know, have 35% movement
speed. So, I didn't like skip out on any
of the gear. Yes, it is on a budget, but
this is gear that I would have used
myself if I only had four divines to my
name and I was trying to build this
character. Now, talking about the
spirit, what you can do when you buy a
pair of boots is you can use mystic
alloy on them. It will remove a random
suffix modifier, but you will get plus
spirit. So, I don't remember what I
removed on here, but it wasn't a big
deal because I'm still using these. And
then on these boots that I paid, what
was it like 20 exults for, I did remove
my rarity, unfortunately. So, this could
take, you know, a couple attempts. Now,
this build needs at least 180 spirit to
function because we summon two totems
and they require 75 spirit each. And
then we just need another 30 spirit for
mana remnants. And then we can take away
the rings. So these just have a little
bit of rarity. We have cold damage, mana
resistances, a little bit of cast speed.
Over here we have again cast speed,
rarity, a little bit of cold damage, a
little bit of resistance. on my rings.
Same thing. Cold lightning damage. This
is a little bit more expensive. Double
rarity, cast speed resistance. So, we
have like the budget rings and then we
have the expensive rings onto this one.
Rarity, cold lightning damage, mana
resistances. And then we have the
amulet. This has plus two level of all
spell skills. You really want that to be
plus three. I also have a little bit of
spell damage and again rarity on my main
amulet. spell damage, rarity, plus three
level of all spell skills. And you can
craft this to plus4 yourself. That could
be a little risky though. So, what you'd
want to do is find an amulet that you
want to use that has plus three level of
all spell skills and then you would have
to use essence of the breach on it. It
will remove a random prefix modifier,
but it will give you plus 20% to maximum
quality. So, you use this on your amulet
of choice. It removes a random prefix
and then you can get caster modifiers to
40%. And that is how you're going to get
plus4 level of all spell skills. And
then you do have to unnull off the 20%
quality so that you can replace it with
an actual prefix modifier. So that could
be pretty risky. It could rip the amulet
or it could just be really expensive. If
you want to use one of the omens that
guarantees your next orb of anomen will
only target prefix modifiers and then
even then it would be you know a one in
well depending on how many modifiers you
have it could be a one in two it could
be a one in three to remove that 20%
quality. So there is a little bit of
risk there but again every plus level
you get is going to be about 13% more
damage. It matters. So really try to get
plus level where you can. And then
again, we have a budget belt that I
spent like 20 exults on. We can take
this off. My actual belt. This one is a
little fancy. I think this is one of the
breach belts. It has increased cool down
rate. And then it has increased spell
damage and cast speed during any flask
effect. So that's pretty neat. Of
course, this could be a head hunter.
This could be a mage blood. So this
could be anything you want it to be. And
then for weapon, again, I just showed
you that I paid five exults for this
staff. We'll put that over there. So,
you can get away with using a budget
piece of equipment like this. But what
you really want to use is a big wand. We
have something like this. I crafted this
one myself. It has double damage as
extra damage and a bunch of plus levels.
I mean, this rune by itself is like 250
div, but I was able to craft this
myself. And I do want to pull up the
crafting guide for you as well. I did
not think of that craft myself. I got it
from this Reddit post uh 3 weeks ago.
So, here are the steps. So, you can take
a picture of that if you'd like. That is
how I crafted this one. There is a
little bit of RNG involved, but it is an
option if you don't want to purchase
something yourself. And then again, you
know, just all credit to the original
poster. And then I also have a fairly
good focus. Now, I'm not too sure how to
craft a shield myself. I did wind up
purchasing this, but you could of course
get like a budget version of this with
like just spell cold damage with plus
two level all spell skills. I do also
have this one. I just purchased this. I
guess I'll just quickly mention it. It's
the same as my wand, but uh this one has
all tier ones. I do need to change the
critical spell damage for crit chance
though, so that might be a little
expensive. And then this is just the old
staff that I purchased. I sniped this
belt for I think one div, but again,
like I really wanted to do this showcase
on a budget, so I didn't want to use
this. And then I originally paid like
100x or something for this belt, and I'm
just like, nope, that's too much. So I
went back and what did I pay for this
one? Like 20x. And something I just
realized, I didn't take off my right of
passage during the showcase. [music] I
guess I actually cheated a little bit. I
had a little bit more damage than I
should. This was not in effect during
arbiter, though. So, this this was my
bad. I I I still managed to miss
something. And then we can just take a
look at the jewels and then we'll just
go over the passive tree. So, I already
showed the screenshot for the heart of
the well that I purchased for one
divine. This one is just barely slightly
better. It has the same cold lightning
damage. It has crit chance just like the
one that I got for one div, but this
also has critical spell damage bonus.
So, a heart of the well like this, I
believe, is like 19 divines, but if you
take away that critical spell damage
bonus, it drops to one divine. And then
all of my other jewels are just double
damage, double crit. But these are 10
divines each, whereas the ones that I'm
currently using are five. Not even.
They're three exalts a piece because
they don't have double crit. They're
just double damage with critical hit
chance. And now we can take a quick look
at the passives. Again, I am blood mage.
I get life remnants for free. I have a
little bit of spell damage leached as
life. My base crit chance is a little
bit higher. So, I do get a little bit of
damage from that. And then I'm just
getting a little bit of extra life from
my equipped body armor. And then we can
just quickly take a look at the
passives. I mean, we're just going to
path up here. We have a little bit of
crit, a little bit of damage, a little
bit of crit over here. We continue
pathing up. We have freeze buildup.
Again, so much of our damage comes from
freeze. And then we get 25% of cold
damage. Has extra fire damage against
frozen enemies. So, I actually want to
talk about freeze real quick. Up here,
we have increased freeze buildup with
freeze duration on enemies. And then
this is why freezing enemies is so
powerful. Hits ignore non- negative
elemental resistances on frozen enemies.
And then 50% increased damage with hits
against frozen enemies. Freeze is so
strong. That's why you always want to
just like prioritize getting the enemies
frozen. And like right before a boss
freezes, you put down your totems again
so you can just stand there and DPS. And
that's really not going to be an issue
on the higher end. It's just like on the
lower end where you have to like watch
that freeze meter on the boss. And then
we just path up here. I'd say you want
to path over to the left first. We're
going to get damage is taken from mana
before life. We also need this ancestral
bond. Totems reserve 75 spirit instead
of costing charges to summon. That's why
we want 155 unreserved spirit. So we can
summon two totems. And then we just come
down here. I have a little bit of crit.
And then we have the heart of the well
that I got for one divine. And then
again, all of my jewels are just double
damage with single crit over here.
Double damage, single crit. All of these
were like three exalts a piece. Double
damage, single crit. Over here, double
damage, single crit. And then double
damage, single crit. But once we get
these nodes, then we can come up here.
Again, we already went over this. Freeze
duration, freeze buildup. We have plus
one level of all cold skills. Pretty
much all of our damage is coming from
grim pillars. So, we want a lot of plus
levels. Two cold skills. You can also
see that I'm I'm currently I currently
have three points over here for just
like a little bit more spell damage.
These aren't really doing anything. I
might move these around eventually, but
we'll see. We can come down here.
Increased maximum mana. Increased spell
damage per 100 maximum mana. And then we
convert energy shields to mana. And that
is why like having mana and a life
remnants is so good because it's just so
much sustain. And then with my critical
hit chance, I mean, right now it should
be pretty pitiful, but with my jewels,
this does go up to about 75%. Which just
means that enemies are constantly
dropping remnants, which is so much
survivability. Come up here for just a
little bit of spell damage. We already
went over these nodes. We have a little
bit more crit over there. Crit over
here, crit over here, and then we just
finish it off with a little bit more
crit. And that is everything the build
has going for it. So, I just put in my
actual jewels, and we can see I'm at 74%
crit with six times crit damage. And
then we can see the spell totem. We went
from 40,000 damage to 230,000.
And we can also see that my grim pillars
is now level 38. And we're just getting
so much damage at the very high end. So
now I don't want this video to be too
too long. So we'll take down the Arbiter
of Divinity one more time just so we can
see the difference in damage. All right.
So here we go. two totems. We hold the
left click.
He's frozen instantly. And that's phase
one.
So, with just a little bit of
investment,
you can just make everything in this
game easy. Phase two should go a little
bit faster. He has a lot of damage
reduction on phase one. I don't know why
it takes so long to kill him, but phase
two is over in an instant.
And let's see what we get. Oh, another
divine. Don't mind if I do. But anyways,
that is the spark grim pillar totem
character build that I've been running
on a budget. Again, four divines is I I
I did forget to take off my right of
passage. I'm sorry. I I did miss one
thing, but again, that didn't apply to
the Arbiter of Divinity when we took him
down. Again, links to everything in the
pinned comment below, as well as my Path
of Exile Ninja page. And with that, I
think we are just about done for today.
So, as always, everyone, take care.

This video provides a detailed guide on how to build a budget-friendly, effective character in Path of Exile, focusing on a 'Grim Pillar' totem build that relies on freezing enemies for damage output. The creator demonstrates the build's viability on a four-divine budget by completing a 100% delirious map and defeating a boss. The guide covers the skill mechanics, gear selection, passive tree optimization, and provides insights into scaling the build from a budget setup to a more expensive, high-damage version.
