Why I like 14 inch laptops + My Favorites
323 segments
Hey guys, how's it going? So, these are
the best 14-inch laptops that I've used
this year in 2025. And I'll get into why
I think that is, but I also want to talk
about why I believe that 14-in laptops
are the best types of laptops. And I
think that they suit the most amount of
people. This whole thing started because
I was compiling the list of my favorite
laptops this year, and it just so
happened that a lot of them ended up
being 14-in laptops. And I think a lot
of that reason is be just because of how
much sleeker and more portable they are.
They're all incredibly light, easily
able to be picked up with one hand, no
problem. In addition to the weight
savings compared to most 16-in laptops,
and I'm going to use the MacBook as an
example, it just takes up less space on
your desk. I I find a lot of times when
I'm using a 16-in laptop, I have to make
space on my desk. I have to move things
around while the 14-in can just be able
to be popped down easily. And again, I
know I mentioned the weight already, but
because of that, I end up being more
productive because I it's just easier to
pick up and take with me everywhere
compared to even the 16-in laptop. And
this is just on the MacBook side.
Sometimes on the Windows side, a 14-in
versus a 16-in can be the difference
between like 4 lb and like six lb. So,
it's just really nice being able to have
something a little bit sleeker and more
compact.
Also, I think laptops were just built to
be 14 in. Like, just take a look at the
chassis here. There's so much wasted
space on the 16-in versus the 14-in. And
you might be thinking, "Okay, no, but
there's bigger speaker grills." But in
just about every comparison you'll see
online, the 14-in MacBook Pro sounds
identical to the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
So, you just end up with just like a
sleeker package overall. And okay, you
might be gravitated towards a larger
trackpad. in day-to-day use, you'll
never notice that this 14-inch trackpad
is more than large enough for anything
else. I never find myself running out of
room when I'm scrolling through, etc.
So, 14 in is the way it is. I mean, yes,
the cons of that is is typically you get
less performance, but we're heading in
the direction to where laptop
manufacturers and finally on the Windows
side is starting to focus more on
maximizing the amount of performance
while using less power than essentially
throwing a whole bunch of power to a
laptop just to maximize the performance.
And while that approach, yes, it does
better in benchmarks and you do get
better performance, but you end up
relying with power bricks this size and
that essentially negates the usefulness
of having a laptop to begin with if
you're going to be dealing with a power
brick that's nearly the size of the
laptop itself. So, this is what this
would be a typical power brick that you
would get on most 16-in Windows gaming
laptops or any high performance laptop.
This is with this one 330 W. But the
reason why these three laptops were
chosen is because they can all fully be
powered by a 140 watt GAN charger like
this small one from Audi. It just makes
my carry a lot lighter. And I and I
mentioned this again and I really want
to drive that home that I find myself a
lot more productive on 14-inch laptops
just because I'm able to take it with me
easily. But you might be screaming at me
right now, but the screen is smaller.
The screen is tiny compared to a 16-in
and especially if you like 18in laptops.
My argument for that is because 14-in
laptops are smaller as it is. And I know
I'm sorry I need to keep using the
MacBook as an example here because
that's the only two laptops I have that
are the same because the 14-in is
smaller overall. You're able to put the
screen a lot closer to your face and
still be able to type properly while the
16-in laptop needs to be a bit further
away from you. And once you start using
both of them and in most cases as a
result the screen size ends up being
very similar in terms of what my eyes
are able to pick up because the screen
is closer to my face. So I don't really
feel like I lose much screen real estate
when I'm using a 14-in laptop. The main
issue on the window side though is you
will lose performance. But in 2026 and
beyond, I hope we keep on heading in the
direction of offering more performance
while using less power. All right, so
let's talk about these three laptops
really quickly and why I chose them. The
MacBook first, that's going to be easy.
I am traditionally a Windows user. I
much prefer Windows laptops, but I hate
to [clears throat] say it and this
breaks my heart to say it, but the
MacBook Pro was probably my most used
laptop this year. I mean, I the thing is
I have a gaming desktop behind me, so
whenever I do want to game, I'm gaming
on that. But for everything else, I've
been using the MacBook. When it comes to
video editing and video production in
general, this is by far the best because
you get the best performance. Scrubbing
on my timeline with Premiere Pro. If you
do find yourself video editing, if you
have a lot of effects and a lot and like
multi- camera and tons of B-roll, etc.,
you could, you know, that that starts to
slow down and bog down on Premiere Pro
on Windows. And on top of that, the
software is just better optimized for
Mac hardware. The problem with Windows
is you may have an AMD CPU, but then
with an Nvidia GPU or you might have an
Intel CPU with either Nvidia GPU or an
AMD GPU and then also different versions
of Windows. There's a Windows for ARM
and there's a different Windows for
Windows laptops that have more tops in
it. So, you get better AI performance.
And because of that, I just think it's a
lot more difficult for software
companies to optimize for Windows
laptops. But with Mac, it's all just M
series and they're using a similar
architecture. So they don't need to
recreate their software for different
versions of Mac OS, etc., and different
hardware. So I think that makes a big
difference, too. And what I love the
most about this though is the power draw
is just so low. I can spend like 6 hours
working on video editing on this laptop
and the battery won't die. I can use
this laptop for days, sometimes almost
an entire week without the battery ever
dying. With Windows, it's always a
gamble. Maybe one day I might wake up
and the battery is dead on this guy. And
in general, you just watch the battery
go down on just every single Windows
laptop I use. While on Mac, you just
don't. So, in terms of being productive,
in terms of me just being able to put
this into my backpack and then go
somewhere for like 10, 12 hours and not
have to worry. Essentially, I'm just
talking about reliability, the MacBook
is going to win always. And I hate to
say that because I love Windows, but it
just is the way it it is. Eventually, I
want to do a full review on the MacBook
series, but that's not this video. I
just want to say like I think overall
for mo most people unless you know you
love Windows or you need Windows or
obviously if you're into gaming. I hate
to say it man cuz I'm such a Windows fan
to begin with. But it's not my fault.
This is Windows fault for not fixing
their operating system. But overall the
best laptop for most people is going to
be this MacBook Pro here. But if you do
like gaming and you want an excellent
Windows laptop, this has been my
favorite. And I know there's the Razer
Blade 14 and there's also the the G14
from ROG, which a lot of people might be
screaming at me through the camera
saying that why didn't you go with
those? Well, for me, it comes back to
the basic premise of what a 14-in laptop
is supposed to be. What I love is this
entire laptop. I could do all of my
gaming with just this 140 watt charger
from AI. And it does make a difference
in terms of my overall carry. If I
didn't care so much about portability, I
would have went with a 16-inch laptop or
an 18-inch laptop. And then by that
nature, I would have just carried around
a larger charger. But this is the only
one that can be fully powered through
USBC. If you have a USB dock or a
Thunderbolt dock that supports 140 watt
charging, one cable and you're in. And
what I also love about the HP Omen
series is just this design. It's all
aluminum and a very high quality
aluminum. I feel like HP doesn't get the
credit it deserves for making such a
premium feeling laptop. And I love this
keyboard. This is by far my favorite
keyboard out of any company. The travel
is nice. It's got a nice clickiness to
it. HyperX does a really good job making
keyboards and the fact that it's in this
laptop does really make a big
difference. I And you know what? When I
first saw this pudding style keyboard
with in terms of the RGB lighting, I was
I just thought, "Wo, this is amazing. I
love the way this looks." But then last
year when I did a video on this, a lot
of people did not like the way it
looked, at least on camera. I feel like
it looks a lot better in person. But the
main reason why I chose this as my
favorite 14-in laptop is because it has
the dongle built in for most HyperX
products. So you could connect a mouse
or and a headset like the Cloud 3S
without using any cables or dongles. The
wireless protocol is built right into
this laptop and it's not using
Bluetooth. So you're getting the full
2.4 GHz connection. Again, coming back
to a 14-inch laptop, you just can't beat
the convenience of this. I did order
though I did order a headset and a mouse
from HyperX, but it just hasn't shipped
yet. I really wanted to showcase that
for this video, but I can't. But I think
that's why next year when the 2026
laptops come out, I'm heavily leaning
towards HP Omen laptops because of that
integrated dongle. It just makes my life
easier. I've been playing a lot of games
this year and just sometimes finding the
right dongle and making sure it's it's
connected and set up has just been kind
of a pain. I just really want everything
to be built into the laptop. And that's
another good thing about the MacBook
too. Coming back to that, if you do use
Apple products like AirPods, etc., you
don't have to do anything. You put the
AirPods in your ears, press play, and
the audio output automatically routes
from your MacBook to your AirPods. No
connection necessary. It's just all
about convenience to get whatever you
need to get done much faster. But this
laptop here, I would say that this is
the laptop of the year. I know I wanted
to give it to the MacBook. I think the
MacBook is the best laptop for most
people, but if you really need that
extra screen real estate, this is the
Asus Zenbook Dual 14. And this is my
personal work laptop. The job I signed
up with gave me a budget of $1,500 to
choose whichever laptop I want. So, I
chose this even though it's retailing
for like $1,700. I ended up just putting
the extra $200 in myself, and it was
just totally worth it because not only
do you get an amazing 14-in laptop, but
it also ends up being a dual screen
laptop with a removable keyboard. And
Asus did an excellent job conferring
this laptop the way it works. Everything
just works naturally. And I should also
mention that this is a touchscreen and
this is the only laptop listed here that
is a touchcreen. So that is incredibly
nice to have. And just having two
screens is nice. I don't think I have to
convince anyone that a dual screen setup
is way more productive. And ASUS did a
very good job configuring the software.
a lot of things that were just
thoughtful. Like when you raise the
brightness, it does it on both screens
and not just one. And Asus has some
really cool software that just makes
this entire experience great. This
actually, other than my MacBook, has
been my most used laptop this year
because I use it for my 9 toive job.
Even something simple, just having a
built-in kickstand on your laptop is
really, really functional. Even if
you're not going to do use a dual
screen, it was just nice to have it
propped up next to my monitor when it is
docked and charging. So, yeah, I think
that'll do it for this video. I'm going
to have links to these laptops down
below. I It's I I know I know this is
not necessarily a full review of them,
but I just kind of wanted to do a
celebration to the 14-inch laptops in
general. So, if you like this video,
leave a like. If you want to see more,
