Hey everybody, how's it going? I hope

0:00

you have a lovely day. Welcome to

0:02

today's episode of Do Not Accept the

0:03

Premise of [ __ ] I am your host

0:04

Louis Rossmann and today I would like to

0:06

make a video on a giant mistake that I

0:08

believe some people in the Stop Killing

0:10

Games movement has made and what I need

0:12

you guys to do to fix this. This is

0:14

about a post I saw on Reddit that I was

0:16

linked to. It says, and I quote, "We

0:18

received reports of serious threats

0:20

towards individuals. While we're not

0:21

pleased with the ESA's behavior,

0:22

obviously, we received reports of

0:24

serious threats towards individuals.

0:25

This behavior does not reflect Stop

0:27

Killing Games' values and anyone found

0:28

to be doing this will be banned

0:29

immediately."

0:32

Senator, do you still beat your wife?

0:34

No.

0:35

Do you see what happened there? When you

0:37

respond to do you still beat your wife

0:38

with no, you've accepted the premise

0:40

that at one point in time you beat your

0:41

wife. If you say yes, then well, you

0:44

must still beat your wife. It's a

0:45

[ __ ] question. When you respond to

0:47

the premise of [ __ ] you always

0:49

lose. You're not supposed to play this

0:50

game. This is a very bad game to play

0:52

and it's a game that I've unfortunately

0:53

learned because I have been dealing with

0:55

this as I've tried to push Right to

0:56

Repair forward for the last 12 years.

0:58

I've dealt with politicians, I've dealt

0:59

with lobbyists. There are ones that I've

1:01

dealt with on the other side that have

1:02

been scumbags and then some that I've

1:03

hired on my own side that have been

1:04

scumbags that I learned picking out the

1:06

hard way.

1:07

This is a difficult lesson to learn. I

1:09

remember back in 2015 and 2014 when I

1:11

would show up to these legislative

1:12

hearings, there was one assembly person

1:15

that told me that there was a

1:17

lobbyist for either Apple or Samsung

1:19

that said that when I replace a fuse or

1:21

a chip inside of the motherboard, I'm

1:23

replacing it and I'm turning the Mac

1:24

into a PC. But then I misrepresent it as

1:27

if it's still a Mac to my customer,

1:29

which is fraud. That's crazy. That's

1:31

insane. And the reason that they were

1:32

able to say these things to get Right to

1:34

Repair and other bills killed is because

1:35

back in the day, you did not have

1:37

political YouTubers, you didn't have the

1:39

government website allowing you to

1:40

stream a committee hearing. They didn't

1:41

even have cameras in these committee

1:42

hearings. When I was showing up with my

1:44

old beat-up Sony NEX-EA50, I was usually

1:46

the only person that was actually

1:48

showing up to record what it is that the

1:50

opposition said. And they would say

1:52

insane [ __ ] They would say that a

1:53

MacTrometer in a microwave would

1:54

explode. They would say stuff like that.

1:56

They would say that running a Minecraft

1:57

server is illegal. And the reason they

1:59

got away with it is because there was no

2:00

accountability because they were used to

2:02

speaking to a room of three or four old

2:04

farts that didn't really know anything

2:05

about technology and they were not being

2:07

held accountable. What you're seeing now

2:08

is a rapid dose of accountability

2:11

because these hearings are now

2:12

live-streamed and you have people on

2:14

YouTube that find them and repost them

2:15

to their channels. So, something that

2:16

used to be viewed by three or four

2:18

people are now getting viewed by

2:19

millions of people around the world and

2:20

they're scrambling to figure out a way

2:21

to deal with this. And the way that they

2:23

have learned that they deal with this is

2:25

death threat, nasty emails. Hey, can you

2:27

tell everybody on your side to stop

2:29

sending me these nasty emails? And then

2:31

what you do, thinking you're a nice

2:32

person, I don't want people to be

2:33

harassed. I don't want people to get

2:35

nasty emails and death threats, is go,

2:37

"Oh, everybody, please don't send death

2:38

threats to that person."

2:40

What happens when you type that?

2:41

You have now accepted, tacitly, that

2:44

your side sends death threats to people.

2:45

See, here's the thing. If they say that

2:48

they believe that everybody on your side

2:50

are evil, mean, bad people. These gamers

2:52

are bastards, they're serial killers,

2:54

they're murderers, they send everybody

2:55

nasty messages. They told me to go kill

2:57

myself.

2:59

That's an accusation. Accusations

3:01

require evidence and it sounds like

3:02

slander. You You just can't do that. You

3:04

can't make unfounded accusations without

3:06

presenting any evidence.

3:07

But if they can get you to say it, now

3:11

Well, you I listen, I didn't say

3:13

anything. Look, even they are telling

3:15

their own community to be nice to people

3:16

because of they're so mean. Even they

3:18

know their own community is toxic. The

3:20

reason this bothers me so much is

3:21

because they're taking advantage of the

3:22

fact that they believe that you are good

3:24

people. The same way that some of those

3:26

Moms Demand Action people have been

3:27

tricked into believing this. David Tobin

3:29

was mentioning that in the past video

3:30

where they were literally told that this

3:33

is a gun printing machine, it's just

3:34

designed to print guns, that's what it

3:35

does. You just hit a button and it

3:36

prints a gun. And then they show up

3:38

opposed to this. They are taking

3:39

advantage of the fact that most of the

3:40

people in the Stop Killing Games

3:41

movement are actually good people that

3:43

don't want people to be harassed. So,

3:45

you get put in the situation where you

3:46

go, "Oh, no. If I say that they're

3:48

making it up, then I sound like Alex

3:50

Jones in the Sandy Hook shooting calling

3:52

it a false flag. And oh, I'm going to

3:54

tell the people in my audience, please

3:56

don't please be nice to people. I I want

3:59

people to be nice to people.

4:00

>> And the problem with that is that when

4:02

you do that, you are you are essentially

4:04

accepting the fact that there's only a

4:06

yes or a no answer to "Senator, do you

4:08

still beat your wife?" And you cannot do

4:10

that. I see that in the comments of the

4:12

thread that I'm reading. Half of the

4:13

people in that thread are saying this is

4:14

a false flag, they're making it up,

4:16

which puts you in the Alex Jones [ __ ]

4:18

category of that did not happen. And

4:19

then there is the side saying we need to

4:22

take accountability and responsibility

4:24

and we need to respond to this by

4:25

condemning this in our community, which

4:27

is accepting that this is real or came

4:31

from your community. When I say

4:32

accepting the premise of [ __ ] what

4:33

I mean is somebody has taken a problem

4:35

and put it in your lap that doesn't

4:36

belong there, and you turn into the

4:38

character I talked about. Oh, no, a

4:40

problem in my lap. Instead of doing what

4:42

you're supposed to do, which is take

4:43

that problem and put it right back where

4:44

it belongs. And there's and I would like

4:46

to instruct you on how you do that. I've

4:47

experienced this many times before and

4:49

I'll give you this a few examples of it

4:51

that I have here. There was a Senator

4:53

C.T. Wilson. He didn't know the

4:55

difference between source code and

4:56

firmware. And when I pointed out that he

4:57

didn't read the bill and that he didn't

4:58

know the difference between source code

4:59

and firmware, rather than come out and

5:01

admit that he made a mistake, he claimed

5:03

people were sending him all these nasty

5:04

racist emails. Of course, he never

5:06

presented any of them. He never showed

5:07

any of them. He never made a filed an

5:09

official complaint about any of them,

5:10

but he he said that they did. There was

5:11

a lobbyist that said that right to

5:12

repair is a solution in search of a

5:14

problem that does not exist. And after

5:16

hearing this over and over and over

5:17

again, I checked one of the lobbyist's

5:19

personal Twitter and I saw them say,

5:21

"I'm experiencing phone issues. The

5:22

phone is on, but the screen is black.

5:23

I've tried everything. It's time for"

5:25

and I could be clear, the last time I

5:26

clicked this was almost 7 years ago, so

5:28

I don't remember exactly what it said.

5:29

It's like, "a new phone if I can't find

5:31

a place to repair it." So now I can show

5:32

that her own statement is not only a

5:33

statement that's false, but it's a

5:34

statement that she knows is false

5:36

because she tried to get a phone repair

5:38

and had issues getting a phone repair

5:39

and now she's lobbying against right to

5:40

repair by saying that there's no

5:41

problem.

5:43

And it's funny, I'd never heard about

5:44

any sort of threats, any sort of

5:45

harassment before and all that came out

5:47

when I pointed out, "Look, she lied."

5:51

Never heard anything about any threats

5:53

before. When I point out that they lied

5:55

about something, that's when I hear

5:56

about it. Next, and one of my personal

5:57

favorites. In Colorado, there was a

5:59

right to repair bill that was passed

6:00

many years ago. It was a great right to

6:01

repair bill. A senator introduced a bill

6:03

that was mostly sponsored and paid for

6:04

by Cisco and IBM to try and gut that

6:06

right to repair bill. And when they were

6:08

trying to gut that right to repair bill,

6:09

the senator made a statement that the

6:11

governor said in his signing statement

6:12

that he wanted right to repair to have

6:14

an exemption for critical

6:14

infrastructure. So, I decided to read

6:16

the signing statement, and I saw it, no

6:17

mention of this. I actually couldn't

6:18

find a single mention of Governor Jared

6:20

Polis ever saying anything related to

6:22

this. So, I made a video saying, "Here's

6:24

what the senator said, and then here's

6:26

the actual signing statement. He lied."

6:28

Do you think that he came out and

6:29

apologized or provided a citation for a

6:30

statement? Of course not. Death threats.

6:33

Death threats. Death threats.

6:34

>> Political violence in any form are

6:37

unacceptable inside or outside of this

6:40

building. And if you are mad about a

6:42

piece of legislation,

6:45

send us a

6:47

>> You know, I did some research into this.

6:48

I actually asked around, were there any

6:49

official complaints filed?

6:51

No.

6:52

Were there any police reports filed?

6:54

No.

6:56

Okay. So, here's what I'm going to do. I

6:57

filed a police report many years ago,

6:59

almost 10 years ago, when a $200 bike

7:01

was stolen. I'm not even talking about

7:02

somebody punch me in the face and took

7:03

it violently. I'm talking about I locked

7:05

it to a telephone pole, I forgot it was

7:07

there, I came back a week later, and I

7:08

saw that the lock had been cut. I filed

7:10

a police report over a $200 bike.

7:13

And you're not filing a police report or

7:14

any sort of complaint over somebody

7:15

threatening your life?

7:18

That's crazy. So, here's what I'm going

7:19

to do.

7:20

It doesn't seem like you took this

7:22

seriously. So, because you did not take

7:24

it seriously, I'm going to take this

7:25

threat as seriously as you did, which is

7:28

not at all. And I'm going to continue to

7:29

focus on the point. How about this,

7:30

senator? I'm going to work with you. I'm

7:32

politically ignorant, I barely graduated

7:33

high school. I will give you $2,000 to

7:36

you personally or a charity of your

7:38

choosing, if you're not allowed to

7:39

accept my money, if If will simply cite

7:41

your claim. You said that the governor

7:43

said that this bill needs to be amended

7:44

because right to repair is so horrible.

7:46

Where did he say that? If I missed it,

7:49

then you could give $2,000 to children

7:51

that are starving right now.

7:53

I'm waiting for that citation, the same

7:55

way that I'm waiting for evidence of the

7:56

death threats, and evidence of a police

7:58

report.

7:59

I'm probably going to be waiting for a

8:00

long time. Less than a week later, this

8:02

happened.

8:03

The bill that he was introducing to

8:05

destroy right to repair failed, and I

8:07

never got my citation. I never got my

8:09

source, and I never got my police

8:11

report.

8:12

I never will. And we both know why

8:14

that's the case.

8:16

This is their strategy. They're used to

8:18

being able to fear monger over

8:19

legislators by saying that these parts

8:20

that don't actually exist inside of

8:22

microwaves will blow up and explode if

8:23

right to repair passes, and you can see

8:25

Jessa over here right about to bite her

8:26

hand because she can't deal with

8:28

listening to this complete [ __ ] and

8:30

not have anybody call them out on it.

8:32

Accountability is a literal shock to

8:33

their system, and they don't know how to

8:35

deal with it. And the same way that a

8:36

rat when cornered is going to start

8:37

scratching you,

8:39

in my opinion, [clears throat] they're

8:40

going to start doing the same thing.

8:41

Here's my statement on the matter. Ross

8:43

Scott has never conducted himself as

8:44

anything but respectful, and neither of

8:46

the people that he's worked with,

8:47

alongside the people pushing this

8:48

petition in the EU. This does not need

8:50

to be announced because it's been

8:51

already demonstrated by how you all

8:53

behaved. But, here's what I would say.

8:54

Here's what I think that your statement

8:56

should be. Moderators and leaders in the

8:57

Stop Killing Games movement are

8:58

upstanding citizens of the community

9:00

that will always happily and

9:01

enthusiastically cooperate with any form

9:03

of law enforcement to work to stop any

9:05

threats of violence. We always have, and

9:07

we always will.

9:10

Oh, you're you're you're saying that you

9:12

didn't file a police report? You You

9:14

mean somebody threatened your life, and

9:16

they didn't even file a police report?

9:18

I filed a police report when somebody

9:19

stole the tip jar from my store. It

9:21

doesn't seem like you care very much

9:23

about your own personal safety. But,

9:25

because I care about you, even though we

9:27

disagree on almost everything, because I

9:29

care more about your personal safety

9:31

than you do yourself, let's go down to

9:32

the police station and file this

9:33

together. I'll even talk about the

9:35

qualms that we had online and all the

9:36

people in my movement and everything

9:37

else. You can even include that in the

9:38

report. I'll talk about it with him.

9:41

Oh, you don't want to do that? You don't

9:42

want to file a report?

9:44

Okay, let's have a conversation about

9:46

why that is. Is it because you don't

9:48

feel like you're actually being

9:49

threatened? And if that is the case,

9:52

why?

9:53

I'd love to hear.

9:55

Oh, you don't want to talk about it

9:57

anymore. Now I see. Let's get back to

10:00

the discussion that we were having

10:00

before. Ma'am, can you explain why it is

10:03

you lied to the state senate and said

10:04

that playing Minecraft on a server that

10:06

was available on their own website is

10:08

illegal? Ma'am, can you explain why it

10:10

is you said that it is not true that

10:12

publishers are just killing games

10:14

willy-nilly in spite of the fact that we

10:15

have an entire database with sources,

10:17

citations, dates, names of everything?

10:20

You can bring the conversation back to

10:22

where it belongs. You are going to treat

10:23

their deflection as seriously as they

10:25

have treated the deflection, which is

10:27

less seriously than I treated a stolen

10:28

tip jar or a stolen used beat-up $200

10:31

bicycle in Bed-Stuy.

10:34

And you are going to get back to having

10:35

the conversation that needs to be had.

10:37

And you are not going to make this

10:38

[ __ ] mistake again.

10:42

Promise me.

10:44

These are highly manipulative people.

10:46

They know what they're doing. They are

10:47

more than happy to get up in front of a

10:48

group of senators and look them straight

10:50

in the eye and make [ __ ] up. That takes

10:52

a very special type of person, a very

10:54

manipulative type of person.

10:57

That is what you are dealing with.

10:59

And if that is what they are used to

11:00

doing every single day, imagine what

11:01

they're going to be doing to you.

11:03

Nah. You guys need a little bit more

11:05

training before you start playing this

11:06

game. You are dealing with highly

11:07

manipulative people. You cannot play

11:09

their game. You will never win playing

11:12

their game.

11:13

You win playing your game. You win by

11:15

taking their threats as seriously as

11:17

they have.

11:19

You win by not accepting the premise of

11:21

[ __ ]

11:22

Don't do it again.

11:24

That's it for today. And as always, I

11:25

hope you learned something. I'll see you

11:27

in the next video. Bye now.

Interactive Summary

Louis Rossmann analyzes a strategic mistake made by activists in the 'Stop Killing Games' movement, who responded to accusations of harassment and death threats by apologizing and distancing themselves. Rossmann argues that this behavior is a trap—an 'accepting the premise' fallacy—that validates unfounded claims and empowers opponents to continue using manipulative tactics. He provides examples from his own experiences in Right to Repair activism, urging activists not to engage with false framing but instead to demand evidence or steer the conversation back to the core issues.
