Apple just released iOS 26.5 and

0:02

although it's not as big of an update as

0:04

iOS 26.4 was, it does still include

0:07

quite a few features and changes that

0:09

you will want to know about. So in this

0:11

video we're going to be discussing

0:13

everything new in iOS 26.5. We're going

0:16

to talk about the performance, the

0:17

battery life, and of course if you

0:18

should update or not. Okay, so let's

0:21

start by talking about what's new in iOS

0:23

26.5. So the first change has to do with

0:27

messaging. more specifically messaging

0:29

with RCS. So we now have endtoend

0:33

encryption for RCS messaging with iOS

0:36

26.5 which means that messages sent

0:39

between iPhone and Android are now end

0:42

to end encrypted. So that means that

0:44

only the sender and the recipient can

0:46

read them. Not Apple, Google, your

0:48

carrier, any type of third party. Nobody

0:50

can intercept that message now while

0:52

it's being sent. So messages via RCS

0:55

will basically be more secure now. And

0:57

you'll see this little encrypted key

0:58

right here in RCS messages now. So this

1:01

showed up before in iMessage, but now

1:03

you will see that also for RCS messaging

1:06

as long as you and the recipient both

1:08

have, you know, an up-to-date device and

1:11

you are using RCS, not SMS. And keep in

1:14

mind, end to-end encryption is enabled

1:16

by default. So it is on by default. And

1:18

if you go into your messages settings

1:20

right here and go down here to where we

1:23

have RCS right here under text

1:25

messaging, you will see in toend

1:27

encryption, which is currently in beta,

1:30

which is worth noting. So it may not be

1:32

available for all devices or carriers,

1:34

it says. And it says conversations

1:36

labeled as encrypted are encrypted end

1:38

to end. So messages can't be read while

1:40

they're sent between devices. And if

1:42

this sounds familiar to you, it's

1:43

because Apple did test this feature in

1:46

the iOS 26.4 for betas, but it did not

1:49

make the final release until now with

1:51

iOS 26.5. If you have an Apple Watch,

1:54

there's a slight change to the workout

1:56

buddy on the lock screen. So, the live

1:58

activity here now shows workout buddy on

2:01

the lock screen and you can tap to read

2:03

and it will show you the transcript.

2:05

Before, it did not show up on the iPhone

2:08

underneath of the workout view here.

2:10

There's also a change to reminders. So,

2:12

we have a reminder here for take the

2:14

trash out. If we haptic press on that,

2:15

you will see that now we have a couple

2:18

of changes here. So, first off, it says

2:20

remind me in 1 hour now instead of an

2:23

hour. This is 26.4.2 on the left, by the

2:26

way. iOS 26.5 on the right. Also, before

2:29

it said remind me in the morning, now it

2:31

says remind me tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. So,

2:33

it's more specific with a time. It

2:35

actually gives you a time instead of

2:37

just saying in the morning. So, that's a

2:39

small change here, but something that's

2:41

noteworthy for reminders. iOS 26.5 also

2:45

includes a new wallpaper. So, if you go

2:46

to your wallpaper section here and you

2:48

tap on the plus and you scroll down

2:50

until you get to the Pride, you will see

2:53

this. Now, if you don't have this

2:54

downloaded, you will have to tap on the

2:56

get button next to Pride. But if you do

2:58

have Pride already downloaded, you will

3:00

see these first two are the brand new

3:02

wallpapers with iOS 26.5. So, if you tap

3:05

on that, you can see what it looks like.

3:07

And this is actually one of my favorite

3:09

Pride wallpaper collections over the

3:11

past few years. So, a lot of them don't

3:14

look as good as this in my opinion. This

3:15

also really just goes well with iOS 26

3:18

in general, the liquid glass design. So,

3:20

you can see these different colors, the

3:22

different, you know, Roman numerals down

3:23

there to indicate which one you are on.

3:25

And if you get all the way to the very

3:26

end, you will see you can actually

3:28

choose a custom color. So, we want to do

3:30

something like this for example, we

3:32

could do that, you know, or different

3:33

colors. You can kind of change it up

3:34

with all these different colors. So, we

3:36

have up to I'm not even sure what the

3:37

maximum amount is, but you can see.

3:39

Okay, so 12 is the maximum amount. So

3:41

you can combine 12 different colors to

3:43

make a really cool unique combination

3:45

here for your wallpaper. And you can see

3:47

this little edit button right here as

3:49

well. If you tap on that, that will pull

3:50

up the color selector here where you can

3:53

choose and kind of swap out the

3:54

different color. So that's pretty neat.

3:56

Let's go ahead and add this to our home

3:57

screen and as a wallpaper pair. So you

3:59

can see the animation. So when we go to

4:01

our home screen, take a look at that

4:03

animation. Very cool animation. That's

4:05

something that Apple always does really

4:06

well with their default wallpapers. Take

4:08

a look at that. Especially the Pride

4:10

ones. always have this really cool, you

4:12

know, animation effect when you go from

4:13

lock screen to home screen. Now, perhaps

4:16

the biggest change in iOS 26.5 is that

4:19

we now have ads in the Apple Maps

4:22

application. Now, before you get super

4:24

upset, it's not nearly as bad as it

4:27

seems. So, first off, you can see that

4:29

Apple does say ads on maps will appear

4:32

when users search in maps and can appear

4:34

at the top of a user search results

4:36

based on relevance. And the main place

4:38

you're going to see these ads are with

4:39

suggested places. If I search for coffee

4:42

shops, for example, in this area, you

4:44

will see up top here little sections

4:47

where we have suggested places. So

4:49

that's going to recommend, you know,

4:51

locations and like coffee shops in this

4:52

example that are nearby and trending. So

4:56

that is one area you will see it. Also,

4:58

when you go to search for something in

5:00

Apple Maps, you'll see right here we

5:02

have suggested places. So now you'll see

5:04

on the main search section inside of

5:07

maps, you will have suggested places

5:08

where as of now it shows two different

5:10

suggested places in that area. And if

5:13

you're worried about privacy with ads in

5:15

maps, Apple makes it very clear that

5:17

that's one of their biggest focuses. And

5:18

they say that there is no tracking and

5:21

everything stays on device. So they say

5:23

this, Apple doesn't know which stores,

5:25

neighborhoods, or clinics you visit and

5:27

Maps doesn't require you to sign in to

5:30

use it. Even if you choose to sign in,

5:32

Maps keeps your data in sync across all

5:34

your devices using end toend encryption.

5:37

So where you go isn't associated with

5:40

your Apple account at all. Now there's

5:42

also a change when you're doing an

5:43

iPhone to Android transfer. So, if you

5:45

go to your settings, general, and then

5:47

transfer or reset, and then you go to

5:48

transfer to Android, there is a new

5:51

feature, a new change here in iOS 26.5

5:54

because now there's a setting for

5:56

selecting how many message attachments

5:59

get transferred over to your Android

6:01

device from your iPhone. So, it can be

6:03

all of your message attachments, which

6:05

are like photos and videos that were

6:07

sent in messages, or you could have just

6:09

the past year or the past 30 days. Those

6:12

are the only ones that will get

6:13

transferred over. So, if you only want

6:15

to do like 30 days or a year, that will

6:17

absolutely save you some space and also

6:19

some time for the transfer. Another

6:21

change in iOS 26.5 is when you connect

6:24

an accessory, so say a Magic Keyboard to

6:27

an iPhone with the USBC cord, the iPhone

6:30

will now automatically establish a

6:32

Bluetooth connection with that

6:34

accessory. So, if you have a cable

6:35

nearby and I plugged the keyboard into

6:37

my iPhone, the USBC port into the USBC

6:40

port on the Magic Keyboard, it will

6:42

automatically create a Bluetooth

6:44

connection, which can actually be very

6:46

handy. It's kind of a shortcut to

6:48

connecting devices. Now, if you're in

6:50

the EU, there is also a new change in

6:52

iOS 26.5 that's going to give you

6:54

AirPods like pairing and notification

6:56

forwarding for third-party wearables,

6:59

plus forwarding live activities to a

7:02

third-party wearable device. So, if you

7:04

have something that's not an Apple

7:05

Watch, for example, you will have that.

7:08

And you will see the settings for

7:09

notification forwarding inside of your

7:11

settings and notifications. Near the

7:13

top, you will see a section for

7:15

notification forwarding if you are in

7:17

the EU. In the books application, iOS

7:20

26.5 mentions new awards in Apple Books,

7:24

which are likely going to be for

7:26

year-end wrap-ups. So, we might be

7:27

seeing a year-end wrap-up in books, and

7:29

it's going to give you awards. is going

7:31

to basically award books that you maybe

7:32

read throughout the year. Another change

7:34

is inside of settings and go into

7:36

general. We're going to go down until we

7:38

see keyboard right here. We're going to

7:40

go to keyboards and we're going to add a

7:42

new keyboard and there is a new keyboard

7:44

down here under the eyes. So, these are

7:47

the new keyboard layout options right

7:48

here. So, we have this and we also have

7:50

it in Latin. Now, as far as security

7:53

patches go, iOS 26.5 will have some

7:56

security patches in this update. So, if

7:58

you're not a big fan of any of the new

7:59

features or changes in iOS 26.5, just

8:02

know that it is probably worth updating

8:04

just for the security patches alone.

8:06

Now, as of the time of recording this

8:08

video, Apple has not yet published

8:10

exactly what those bug fixes and those

8:12

security patches are, but you better

8:14

believe that they will be, you know,

8:16

resolving some of those bugs and those

8:18

exploits that are out there in the wild.

8:20

So, I will leave that link down below in

8:22

the description when Apple does publish

8:24

that. But just know, you know, if you're

8:26

wondering, should you update? Yes, you

8:28

should update because those security

8:29

patches alone, that's always big enough

8:31

reason. And of course, if you are

8:33

somebody who messages somebody with RCS,

8:35

you know, so if you maybe used WhatsApp

8:37

in the past because you didn't have end

8:38

to-end encryption on iPhone, now we have

8:40

end to-end encryption with RCS

8:43

messaging. So you can basically ditch

8:44

WhatsApp now and use the iPhone now that

8:47

we have that feature. So again, it is a

8:50

worthy update if you are somebody who

8:51

uses RCS and of course if you care about

8:53

the security of your device, which most

8:55

of you guys should. Now, as far as the

8:57

performance and the battery life goes, I

8:58

did run a fresh Geekbench score here on

9:01

26.5. You can see we scored a 3809

9:03

single core, 9376 on the multi-core.

9:07

Nothing too crazy. I've noticed that the

9:08

performance overall on 26.5 is very

9:11

similar to iOS 26.4. It does feel a

9:14

little bit smoother. Like a lot of the,

9:16

you know, rough edges of 26.4 and iOS 26

9:19

seem to be getting rounded out now. They

9:21

seem to be a non-issue. So, I've really

9:23

had no crashes, no type of glitches,

9:25

really nothing at all like that on 26.5.

9:28

So, it's relatively stable, you know, in

9:30

general, as it should be at this point

9:31

of iOS 26, but I did not notice a

9:34

massive difference from 26.4. So, if

9:36

you're trying to update expecting a big

9:38

performance boost, I would not go in

9:39

expecting that. And the same kind of

9:41

goes for battery life as well. I'm

9:43

currently at 64% right now. You'll have

9:45

to tell me what I started this video

9:46

with, but battery life overall has been

9:48

great. It has been a little bit better

9:50

than iOS 26.4 and previous versions. So,

9:52

that is a good sign, but you know, it's

9:54

still in my opinion not as good as iOS

9:56

18, which is kind of a disappointment,

9:58

but it is getting close to that point

10:00

and hopefully it will continue to get

10:01

better as I continue to use the

10:03

software. And then looking a little bit

10:04

further ahead to the next release for

10:06

Apple. So, we will be seeing iOS 26.6 at

10:09

some point. We could see those betas

10:11

come out pretty soon, but we should see

10:12

that at some point in June. But of

10:15

course, at this point, all eyes are

10:16

going to be on iOS 27 because we are

10:19

very close from seeing the very first

10:21

beta, the unveil of iOS 27 on day one of

10:26

Apple's WWDC, the Worldwide Developers

10:28

Conference, which takes place right here

10:30

on Monday, June 8th. So, we are less

10:33

than a month away from seeing that

10:36

update. And that's going to be big. And

10:38

we are going to see that first beta get

10:39

released right there on Monday, June 8th

10:42

as well. And again, that is going to be

10:44

the beta, not the final release. The

10:45

final release of iOS 27 is not going to

10:48

be out until September when the new

10:50

iPhones get announced. So that is iOS

10:53

26.5. Not a major new feature release,

10:56

but it is going to be something that

10:57

gives us end to-end encryption, the new

10:59

wallpapers, some security patches. You

11:02

know, can't really complain when we're

11:03

on a.5, you know, updates at this point.

11:06

there's not going to be a ton of new

11:07

features. You know, of course, Apple is

11:09

saving those for iOS 27, but overall,

11:11

I'm a fan of iOS 26.5. I think it's

11:13

great, and I think that most people

11:14

should go ahead and update it. There's

11:16

really no reason to stay back on

11:17

previous software at this point. But,

11:20

hope you guys enjoyed this video. If you

11:21

did, I would appreciate if you give it a

11:22

thumbs up. Also, know your thoughts down

11:24

there on the Pride wallpaper and end

11:27

encryption, all that stuff. Let me know

11:28

all your thoughts down there in the

11:29

comments below. But anyways guys, thanks

11:31

for watching and I'll see you

Interactive Summary

iOS 26.5 is a stability and security-focused update that includes several notable, though not groundbreaking, features. Key additions include end-to-end encryption for RCS messaging, new Pride wallpapers with customizable color combinations, improved reminder scheduling, and the introduction of ads in Apple Maps based on search relevance.
