News when you want it with Bloomberg News now, I'm Nathan Hager.

0:05

And I'm Karen Moscow. And Karen, oil is on the rise again

0:09

after gaining the most since October yesterday.

0:12

This morning, West Texas Intermediate is up 1%.

0:16

That's as Axios has reported, the Trump administration is closer to a major war

0:21

in the Middle East than most expect. Axios says the U.S.

0:24

operation would likely be a weeks long campaign.

0:27

We get more from Bloomberg managing editor Paul Wallace in Dubai.

0:31

It sounds as if Iran has roughly two weeks to get back to the Americans, and

0:36

then if they're broadly satisfied, the Americans will say, okay, let's go to

0:39

round three. And we don't know where that will be.

0:42

But of course, there are plenty of people, including including in the oil

0:46

market, who think America might be essentially trying to lull Iran into a

0:51

false sense of security and may be willing to strike the country

0:59

before Iran returns with those proposals.

1:02

Because that's, you know, in some sense is echoes what happened in June last

1:06

year with the 12 day war between Iran and Israel and then America at the end.

1:11

You know that that will happen when or at least it started when the US and Iran

1:15

were in the middle of nuclear talks. Bloomberg's Paul Wallace says the U.S.

1:19

has announced visa restrictions on Iranian officials and executives for

1:23

repressing recent anti-regime protests and cutting off Internet access.

1:27

Now, Nathan, to the latest fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein files.

1:31

Billionaire retail mogul Les Wexner testified behind closed doors about his

1:36

relationship with the late sex offender. Two Democrats on the House Oversight

1:40

Committee, the former CEO of L Brands, said he visited Epstein's private island

1:44

once with his wife and children but was unaware of any sex trafficking

1:49

operation. And he repeatedly said he could not

1:52

recall the key details of his relationship with the late sex offender,

1:55

including giving him considerable financial support.

1:58

Arizona Democrat Yasmin Ansari says it's all on the record.

2:02

He allowed Jeffrey Epstein to live in his homes, to have hundreds of millions

2:07

of his dollars, to use his yachts and his planes.

2:11

This was obviously a very, very close relationship.

2:14

And so far what we have seen is a denial of that relationship.

2:18

Congresswoman Yasmin Ansari spoke to reporters from Ohio, where Wexner agreed

2:23

to testify under an agreement with a committee, the Justice Department named

2:26

Wexner, as one of the ten co-conspirators in its 2019

2:31

investigation into Epstein. Wexner was not charged in the case and

2:35

says he was duped by Epstein. Meanwhile, Karan, Bill Gates has backed

2:39

out of a speech at a high profile aid summit in India just hours before he was

2:43

due to speak. In a post on X, the Gates Foundation

2:46

said the Microsoft co-founder made the decision to make sure the focus remains

2:50

on the event's key priorities. Gates has come under criticism for his

2:54

ties to Epstein. The Gates Foundation did not mention the

2:57

financier in its statement. But Gates has called his relationship

3:01

with the late sex offender a huge mistake.

3:04

Let's get to the latest in the search for Nancy Guthrie.

3:06

It's been 19 days since the mother of today's show, host Savannah Guthrie, was

3:10

last seen at her home near Tucson. Police are still looking for new leads

3:14

as they sort through upwards of 50,000 tips.

3:17

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke with BBC News.

3:21

I think she's somewhere here, you know, locally.

3:25

You know what makes you think that? I just do.

3:27

I don't know why I don't have any evidence to prove that.

3:31

Well, I just believe that she's someone here locally.

3:34

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos speaking to the BBC.

3:36

The sheriff has come under some criticism for his handling of the

3:39

investigation. He declared the scene at Nancy Guthrie's

3:42

home done three days after her disappearance, only to return later.

3:46

And he is not held a news conference in almost two weeks.

3:49

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Nanos said some of the

3:52

criticism is politically motivated and in his words, haters are going to hate.

3:57

Karen Meadows, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has testified in a social media and safety

4:02

trial in Los Angeles. He says it's very difficult to enforce

4:06

Instagram's age limits. But Zuckerberg says Matter has

4:09

introduced some proactive tools to try to identify and remove accounts that

4:13

violate the rules. But he calls it a challenging problem.

4:16

Bloomberg's Kurt Wagner says this is a signature moment for social media to

4:21

kind of be challenged with these allegations and Mark Zuckerberg's case

4:26

to defend himself and his company against these accusations.

4:29

And so it's been highly watched, highly anticipated.

4:33

And this is just really the first of more than a thousand potential trials

4:38

that we could see. Bloomberg's Kurt Wagner says this trial

4:41

centers on a 20 year old woman who blames Metters Instagram and Google's

4:45

YouTube for her years of mental health struggles.

4:48

Well, Nathan Bloomberg News has learned open air is close to finalizing the

4:52

first phase of a new funding round that's expected to bring in more than

4:55

$100 billion. Sources say the overall valuation of the

4:58

company. Including the eventual funding could

5:01

exceed 850 billion. Brad Smith is vice chair and president

5:05

of Microsoft, a key open AI partner, and he says that GPT maker is branching out.

5:12

It's not as exclusive as it was, say, a few years ago.

5:17

Open air uses our compute. They train models in our data centers,

5:21

but they work with other companies as well.

5:23

We critically rely on open eyes frontier models.

5:28

They are among the best many days. They are the best in the world.

5:33

But we have a relationship with Anthropic.

5:35

Microsoft's Brad Smith made the comments earlier in an interview with Bloomberg.

5:38

And you can check out that interview as well as live streaming news, all our

5:42

Bloomberg TV shows, documentaries and more.

5:44

It's all in one place at Bloomberg.com forward slash videos.

5:48

And we have this red headline crossing the Bloomberg terminal carrying The BBC

5:52

is reporting that the UK's former Prince Andrew has been arrested on suspicion of

5:57

misconduct in public office. The report shows cars arriving at the

6:02

former prince's Sandringham estate. It comes after local police said they

6:06

were assessing a complaint that the former prince may have shared

6:09

confidential material with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

6:14

Andrew has denied any wrongdoing. Again, the BBC is reporting former

6:18

Prince Andrew of the UK has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in

6:23

public office. And that's news when you it with

6:26

Bloomberg News now. I'm Karen Moscow.

6:29

I'm Nathan Hager and this is Bloomberg.
