Weather Wars is a two-player strategy game
for ages 12 plus with a playtime of
about 60 to 90 minutes.
The player's goal is to use their wizard's
unique abilities to tear down the opponent's fortress.
On their turn, the active player summons the
power of the weather, sends their dragon to
gather runes or attack the enemy fortress, then
shapes the battlefield with spells.
Rounds flow in a pulsing rhythm, sometimes sinister
cloud decides the outcome, sometimes dragons clash among
the cliffs.
The wizard can unleash devastating rune scrolls from
their spellbook, cast storms during the wizard phase
or sacrifice cards for mana while purchasing new
weather spells to build ever stronger combos.
Weather Wars' uniqueness lies in the weather being
the central, fully manipulable resource.
Spells only work when the weather indicators show
the right pattern, forcing the players to constantly
strategize between sunshine and clouds.
Cards simultaneously function as spells, dragon battle strength
and mana sources, making every play
a multi-dimensional decision.
Dragon battles use a bluff-based hidden card
bidding system that creates exciting psychological duels while
rune-powered scrolls deliver brutal, single-use strikes.
The rage track sets the tempo.
The more walls you lose, the stronger bonuses
you gain, keeping the game tense and full
of twists until the very end.
Sunshine covers the entire map.
Your wizard could unleash terrifying storms, lightning strikes,
roaring winds, but the weather
isn't in your favor.
Luckily, your dragon is gathering water runes this
turn, giving you the resources you need.
The decision is tough.
Do you spend those runes on one of
your powerful scrolls or sacrifice them to change
the weather, summoning clouds to create the perfect
conditions for the weather spells in your hand?
According to the game's designer, Andras Molnar, the
rule set is already stable, most graphical elements
are complete and playtesting is ongoing.
Weather Wars is currently around 85% finished,
with developments focusing mainly on balance, refinement, and
finalizing illustrations.
