0:00

congratulations you're about to win your

0:01

first college scholarship and here's why

0:04

there's over a hundred billion dollar in

0:06

scholarship money offered each year now

0:09

most people think the reason no one is

0:10

winning scholarships is because we're

0:12

running out of money but that simply

0:14

isn't the case because over $100 million

0:17

of this money goes unclaimed each year

0:20

so if the reason isn't a lack of money

0:22

do you have to be a straight A student

0:23

or perfect resume to get that

0:25

scholarship surprisingly no that's

0:27

simply not the issue either the reason

0:29

most people don't win scholarships they

0:32

don't know how to correctly find and

0:33

apply for scholarships the right way is

0:36

someone who has won over $500,000 in

0:38

scholarship money this is my Ultimate

0:40

Guide to how I did it and how you can

0:42

too now let's get started before we

0:44

start though my name is kin I'm an MIT

0:46

student and I'm trying to help you pay

0:48

for college so go ahead and hit that

0:49

like button and subscribe to show your

0:51

support I post every Friday so in this

0:54

video we're going to talk about every

0:55

type of scholarship um we got National

0:58

scholarships local scholarships um

1:00

there's corporate scholarships military

1:02

scholarships even essay or competition

1:04

based scholarships for my International

1:06

viewers so all of these different types

1:09

of scholarships are going to be how you

1:11

build up your portfolio of

1:13

applications these categories apply to

1:16

those of you in high school and those of

1:18

you in college so let's talk a little

1:20

bit about strategy and what you're up

1:23

against when you apply for these

1:25

scholarships so I think we all have a

1:27

basic understanding that if if you apply

1:30

to something with more applications it's

1:32

going to be a lot harder to get into the

1:35

the scholarship program for example you

1:37

apply to an Ivy League it's a much

1:39

harder acceptance rate than a community

1:43

college or something like that so that

1:45

same logic applies to scholarships when

1:48

you apply to those full tuition um

1:51

scholarships those National those

1:52

International those Merit based

1:54

scholarships those are going to be a lot

1:55

harder to win but if you apply to the

1:58

local scholarships the low dollar amount

2:00

ones those are going to be a lot easier

2:04

to win because either no one from your

2:07

low locality is applying to them or

2:10

people don't think it's worth it to

2:11

apply for a $500 scholarship now we're

2:14

going to be talking about all of these

2:16

in this video it's good to apply to a

2:18

variety of things because you still want

2:21

to apply to those full tuition

2:22

scholarships because maybe you do have a

2:24

shot but you don't want to ignore the

2:26

ones on the bottom and of course as you

2:28

go down the funnel you've got identity

2:30

based which cuts out a large portion of

2:33

your competition who doesn't identify

2:35

with a certain identity and then need

2:37

based not everyone is going to have

2:39

Financial need so that helps your

2:42

chances um field specific also not

2:44

everyone is a stem major so they can

2:46

apply to stem stem

2:48

scholarships and then of course you've

2:50

got school specific scholarships you're

2:52

competing with the 40,000 people

2:55

admitted to your school but you're not

2:57

competing with people around the world

2:59

world or around the country

3:02

so this is kind of a basic strategy you

3:05

want to keep in mind when you're

3:06

applying to these

3:07

scholarships now warning before you

3:10

continue I said you'd win your first

3:12

scholarship but that takes work you're

3:14

going to have to watch this full video

3:15

and actually apply the steps I give you

3:17

in this video to your actual

3:19

applications now go get a pen and paper

3:21

and lock in so we're going to be talking

3:24

about my four-step process to get the

3:26

scholarship money um you're going to

3:29

start at the beginning I'm going to go

3:30

into what that involves um basically

3:33

you're going to list out a bunch of

3:34

things about yourself then you're going

3:36

to be able to find your scholarships

3:38

notice yours capitalized because there

3:40

are specific scholarships that you want

3:42

to apply for that not other people

3:45

should apply to and then we're going to

3:47

be talking about how to write the

3:48

winning essay and the application

3:51

strategy you want to use that I also

3:53

used when I appli to several hundred

3:58

scholarships but before we get started I

4:00

want to talk a little bit about what is

4:02

the difference between loans grants

4:04

versus scholarships cuz some of my

4:05

viewers don't know this and I think it's

4:07

important to understand that loans are

4:11

not free money loans must be repaid with

4:13

interest um the average interest rate is

4:16

6.5% which is a lot which means you're

4:18

taking out money and then you're going

4:20

to have to pay that money plus money on

4:22

top so you can get Federal loans which

4:24

are lower interest rates um than private

4:27

loans but overall we kind of want want

4:29

to avoid loans which is why I made this

4:31

video in the first place of how to get

4:33

scholarships scholarships and grants are

4:36

completely free money that you do not

4:39

have to pay back so for example the pel

4:42

grant which is given by the federal

4:44

government is for those for from

4:46

lowincome families but they help you pay

4:49

for college a little bit um and then

4:51

scholarships are offered by usually not

4:54

governments as much but by corporations

4:57

by individuals by foundations they want

5:00

to give you money so that you advance

5:02

their um either Mission or they want to

5:05

support you uh whatever the foundation's

5:07

purposes that is free money that goes

5:10

unclaimed every year that we trying to

5:15

access so this picture it's a little

5:18

picture that I just wanted to put up

5:21

this is a picture of a

5:24

moat so why do I have this picture up

5:27

this picture is to illustrate a basic

5:29

concept Concept in the medieval times

5:32

when you had people raiding castles

5:36

going pillaging V Villages and looting

5:39

looting these

5:42

castles when a castle didn't have a

5:45

moat think about what

5:47

happens you're going to have the armies

5:50

the Invaders they easily take take all

5:53

the money from that castle loot the

5:55

castle get all the goods um there those

6:00

are going to be gone real fast the ones

6:02

with the Moes eventually they will fall

6:04

down but the more Moes you

6:07

have the harder it is to get into that

6:09

castle it's a lot easier to attack a

6:12

castle without any moat but if you go

6:14

ahead and go and attack a castle without

6:16

moat guess what there's going to be

6:18

nothing in that castle there's going to

6:20

be nothing left because it's been

6:22

already raided a 100,000 times

6:24

everyone's taken all the good stuff

6:26

already it's not worth salvaging from a

6:29

castle that has been raided

6:32

before you want to go to a castle that

6:34

is hard to attack that people are scared

6:37

of attacking because that is where all

6:39

the good stuff is going down the easy

6:42

routes is going to lead to less reward

6:46

lower risk lower work less reward so

6:49

stop being afraid of the hard work and

6:51

go and attack the castles with big Moes

6:55

so that leads me into my next Point

6:57

you're going to see a lot of lottery

6:59

ticket it's out there right here you you

7:01

see on big future this is college board

7:05

this is the official college board and

7:06

they're offering you let's see look

7:09

$40,000 no essay required not need-based

7:12

not even Merit based so that's just a

7:15

lottery ticket you can go ahead and buy

7:17

a lottery ticket and they won't sell

7:19

your data like these these um things

7:22

will uh if you see right here a $2,000

7:24

scholarship by Sally May what is Sally

7:26

May Sally May is a student loan provider

7:30

so when you go ahead and enter this

7:32

scholarship what are they going to do

7:33

they're going to take down your email

7:34

and they're going to keep spamming you

7:36

how do I know this I did this and now

7:38

they keep sending me emails about

7:40

applying for student loans you never

7:42

going to see a dollar of this money if

7:44

you want to you can go ahead and click

7:45

apply now because it takes 2 seconds and

7:48

that's why 60,000 other people have

7:50

applied to this this is a no Moe Castle

7:54

so do not apply for

7:57

these now what is chat GP p t chat GPT

8:01

is also going to be a lottery

8:04

ticket because chat GPT is what everyone

8:07

is using to write their essays nowadays

8:10

if you want to go ahead and write an

8:11

essay with chat gbt that is reducing

8:14

your workload yes but that's attacking a

8:17

castle with no Moe you can go ahead and

8:19

do that you're not going to win anything

8:22

we're not we're not talking about

8:23

applying to scholarships using chat GPT

8:26

and mass applying you want to apply to a

8:29

lot of scholarships but you want to take

8:31

it seriously you're wasting your own

8:33

time you're wasting the time of the

8:34

people who read the application it's not

8:37

even worth it this is just a lottery

8:39

ticket and now of course what is this

8:43

this is a scam there are a lot of scams

8:45

out there about

8:47

scholarships if you ever have to pay or

8:49

give your bank details to get a

8:51

scholarship before you've even won or

8:54

accepted it these things are overall

8:56

just going to hurt you in the end um be

8:59

careful when you're applying to

9:00

scholarships the official ones will be

9:02

an application they shouldn't ask you

9:04

for money or bank details or anything

9:06

like

9:08

that so let's get into the four-step

9:10

process um we're going to start with

9:14

this so I want you to go ahead and find

9:16

a piece of paper and a pencil um I'll

9:19

give you 10 seconds to do that we're

9:21

going to wait for this gift to reload so

9:24

go ahead 10 seconds

9:33

all right so now that you have that

9:35

piece of paper write down your name at

9:36

the top and the following steps even if

9:39

they seem weird to you don't skip them

9:41

you're going to follow them and it's

9:43

going to be

9:45

great

9:46

so what I need you to do is write down

9:50

your basic stats you can go ahead get

9:52

out your driver's license look yourself

9:54

in the mirror I want you to write down

9:56

your gender height weight eye color

9:59

birth month um identity what does that

10:02

mean racial ethnic background um if

10:05

you're mixed write both religion you

10:07

follow um family income bracket uh go

10:11

ahead and ask your parents try to

10:13

estimate it figure it out this is

10:16

important your parents employers where

10:18

do they work what do they do locations

10:22

you've lived where do you live right now

10:24

where's your home have you moved from

10:26

somewhere write that down on the piece

10:28

of paper in these categories and yes I

10:31

will explain why you're writing down

10:33

your height weight and eye color a

10:35

little bit

10:37

later okay next I want you to write down

10:40

your clubs and extracurriculars you've

10:42

been in this includes National Honor

10:44

societies Sports volunteering all of

10:47

that

10:49

competitions then family facts are are

10:53

your parents divorced or separated do

10:55

they immigrate from where um everything

10:58

about your your

11:00

family and then of course personal facts

11:02

fun facts unique facts about yourself

11:05

are your first generation college

11:06

student are you adopted

11:10

um things about yourself I don't I don't

11:13

really know what else to write down but

11:14

like things that are special about you

11:17

and then of course your major and minor

11:19

stem pread business

11:21

Humanities what what are you

11:24

studying once you've got that all down I

11:27

want you to go ahead look on your

11:29

school's website for your guidance

11:32

counselor write down their name and

11:34

their email address right on the piece

11:37

of

11:38

paper this one is

11:42

important okay so why did we just do all

11:45

of

11:47

that why we did that is because

11:49

scholarships fall into a variety of

11:52

categories these are four of them right

11:54

here they're way more than this let's

11:57

see why we wrote down your religion and

11:58

your race because they're are identity

12:01

based scholarships which give you money

12:03

specifically for these things why did

12:05

you write down your family income

12:07

because need-based scholarships are one

12:09

of the largest categories of where

12:12

students get money for college why did

12:14

you write down your parents employer why

12:17

did you write down your clubs you went

12:18

to went to because these are personal

12:21

aspects of yourself that also have have

12:23

scholarships attached depending on where

12:26

your parents worked they will give you

12:28

money to go to college depending on the

12:31

clubs you did if you did chess club if

12:33

you did um certain Sports you get money

12:36

for those

12:38

activities and finally special

12:42

scholarships why did you write down your

12:44

eye color why did you write down your

12:46

height did you know there's actually

12:48

scholarships for people with certain eye

12:51

colors or being tall or these weird

12:55

little like things that you would never

12:56

have guessed yeah I found that out when

12:58

I was kind of scholarships so might as

13:01

well write it down see if you

13:03

qualify and then there's also

13:05

scholarships for being like coming from

13:07

a single parent household for um like

13:11

being adopted being an orphan all of

13:13

these like unique things about yourself

13:16

there are scholarships for that so so um

13:20

think through things about yourself that

13:24

are like special that you've overcome

13:27

that not many other people can say that

13:29

that they have there might be a

13:30

scholarship for

13:33

that so now how do you take this

13:36

information and find your scholarships

13:39

let's talk about that because this is

13:41

going to be the longest part of the

13:42

presentation and the most important part

13:45

because if you find the right

13:46

scholarships your chances of winning

13:49

like Skyrocket you're you're going to

13:51

win if you find the scholarship that was

13:53

made for

13:55

you so first of all what are we using to

13:58

find these scholarships um these are

14:01

some ways that I found my scholarships

14:04

most of mine do come from scholarship

14:06

America which is a a wonderful like

14:09

website that compiles a bunch of like

14:11

scholarships from other organizations

14:13

foundations these foundations partner

14:15

with scholarship America say you you

14:20

review our applications and we'll give

14:22

the money out to the people who win now

14:26

nshss this is another organization that

14:28

does that or actually they give out

14:30

their own scholarships so that's just an

14:33

organization you can search for them um

14:36

and then the EA I'm going to show you

14:40

guys how to access that and find

14:42

competitions this is more of a

14:44

competition based uh website where you

14:47

can like win money um which you can

14:51

apply to your school and then of course

14:53

there's the classic like databases you

14:56

got Moss which is an app unigo bold fast

14:59

web scholarship 360 Niche scholarship

15:02

hour owl um these all

15:06

have hundreds of thousands of

15:08

scholarships on these databases you can

15:11

choose whichever one works for you those

15:13

are also good um I haven't personally

15:17

won that many off of these little

15:18

databases though um but if that works

15:22

for you that's great I'm going to show

15:24

you guys how to use these in a minute um

15:26

and then also there's first which is the

15:29

robotics organization I was a part of

15:31

they have their own little database of

15:33

scholarships specifically for the first

15:35

program so think about that if you were

15:37

part of an organization do they have

15:39

scholarships do they have a database

15:41

where you can get scholarships um

15:44

specifically for that organization

15:47

that's another Mo because not everyone

15:49

can use the first website unless you've

15:52

done first

15:53

robotics and then finally I have down

15:55

here the counselor that's why we wrote

15:58

down the counselor email

15:59

this is the perfect way to find local

16:02

scholarships which I talked about local

16:05

scholarships are specific to your region

16:08

to your state to your county only the

16:11

people in that area can apply to these

16:13

which is way less than the national and

16:16

international scholarships receiving

16:19

80,000 applications a year that's where

16:22

you're really going to win money is

16:24

through your guidance counselor all of

16:26

these other websites are great the most

16:28

important one is your counselor because

16:30

that's where you win the

16:32

scholarships and then of course Google

16:35

I'll show you how to correctly um search

16:38

for a scholarship on Google right now

16:41

we're going to go through all of these

16:42

actually right now I'm going to show you

16:44

a quick demonstration how you find the

16:49

scholarships so on scholarship America

16:51

if I click on browse scholarships I'm

16:54

going to see a long list of a bunch of

16:56

scholarships in alphabetical order

16:59

so at the top you can filter by the ones

17:02

that are currently accepting

17:03

applications you can filter by the state

17:06

and then your grade level and if you're

17:08

pursuing stem or if you need financial

17:11

need so let's click on this scholarship

17:14

right here we can see the um eligibility

17:17

requirements you can see how much the

17:19

award is worth uh you can see that you

17:22

need an income of 150,000 or less and

17:26

then

17:29

GPA requirements and then it's as simple

17:32

as clicking apply now so on

17:36

nshss I'm going to go to the

17:38

scholarships tab it's not really easy to

17:41

find the scholarships you're going to

17:42

have to scroll down to the footer click

17:44

on

17:45

scholarships and then

17:48

see you've got a couple scholarships

17:51

here offered by

17:53

nshss now some of these are for members

17:56

nshss Members Only um as you can see

17:59

here here's a steam scholarship with a

18:02

question why major question um but there

18:06

are other scholarships which are just

18:07

for the general public so you don't have

18:10

to pay for a membership to apply to this

18:13

for example this one which also is

18:16

related to

18:18

technology so as you can see this is the

18:20

first database I was talking about you

18:22

can use whatever database works for you

18:25

um this is just one that I look through

18:27

as you can see there's a variety filters

18:29

over here you can really Target the

18:31

scholarships towards your specific

18:34

factors now a lot of these are very

18:37

school

18:38

specific but there's also sites like

18:40

Niche bold scholarship owl scholarship

18:43

360 these are all going to have similar

18:45

databases collections of scholarships

18:48

all right next we got the institute for

18:50

educational advancement um there's a

18:52

very specific link you have to go to to

18:54

find the scholarships and competitions

18:57

which I will be sharing in the video

18:59

description so check that out there's a

19:01

variety of filters it's kind of

19:03

glitching out right now but there's

19:05

everything from middle school to high

19:07

school to college on here and it's

19:09

honestly a variety of competitions as

19:11

well as scholarships so as you could see

19:14

that ACS scholarship there is the alond

19:19

grant which offers money but a lot of

19:22

these are mixed with other competitions

19:24

as well um American Legion is a great

19:27

one you have to write an essay and you

19:29

can win some money associated with

19:33

that finally let's talk about how to use

19:35

Google to basically find any scholarship

19:38

in the world so right now I'm just

19:40

typing in scholarships for women and

19:42

stem in high school it's pretty specific

19:44

but if you look at the results we're

19:46

getting a bunch of like database sites

19:49

which aren't very like good you might as

19:51

well have just searched in those

19:53

databases what you really want to do is

19:55

get down to the extreme specifics for

19:58

example

19:59

scholarships for black women in

20:02

aerospace engineering in senior year of

20:05

high school that's very very specific

20:09

and as you can see the results are a bit

20:11

better you get direct links to

20:13

foundations offering

20:18

scholarships okay so now that you know

20:21

how to find scholarships through the

20:23

databases let's talk about the fact um

20:27

that not all of you are in high school

20:29

and that's okay there are scholarships

20:31

for high school students and there are

20:33

scholarships for college students I will

20:36

say applying in high school is way

20:38

easier you have less work there's way

20:40

more scholarships available for you and

20:43

they're

20:44

bigger and you start applying in 11th

20:47

grade um 12th grade is the majority

20:51

there's one scholarship you want to

20:52

apply for in your junior year of high

20:55

school which is 11th grade um but this

20:58

is where the majority of your money is

21:00

coming from and this is where the

21:02

biggest scholarships are targeted

21:05

towards now if you are in college that's

21:08

okay there are still scholarships for

21:10

you there's fewer like big ones but we

21:14

are going to talk about how you get

21:15

those I still been winning scholarships

21:18

while I've been in college so it is

21:20

possible and there is still money

21:22

available for you so keep

21:26

watching so let's talk about the first

21:29

category these are I'm just going to go

21:31

through some examples of scholarships

21:33

under some example categories that you

21:36

guys can use and like know about

21:40

um when you're

21:43

applying so I wanted to make you guys

21:45

aware of these so here's a full tuition

21:48

scholarship there's two of these that I

21:51

know of um which are full tuition

21:54

merit-based scholarships completely

21:56

Merit based not based on anything else

21:58

this is like applying to a college

22:00

except you apply for

22:03

money and that is Cameron impact and the

22:05

coolage scholarship the coolage

22:07

scholarship is the one you apply for in

22:10

your junior year of high school 11th

22:11

grade Cameron impact is for 12th grade

22:15

high school seniors these are going to

22:17

be extremely competitive everyone in the

22:20

country is applying for these and they

22:23

are not easy to win they they're going

22:26

to receive 80,000 applications a year um

22:30

but if you win it you are on a full ride

22:33

scholarship so go ahead and apply for

22:36

these make sure you apply for these

22:38

they're worth

22:39

it but let's narrow it down now let's go

22:43

to the National scholarships these are

22:45

not full tuition these are still

22:48

thousands of applications a year but you

22:50

should be aware of them and you should

22:52

still apply for them because if you win

22:54

these scholarships you can put it on

22:56

your resume you can say you you want you

22:59

are a winner of this scholarship and

23:01

they often have huge programs and

23:04

support available which is more than

23:06

just money you're part of a network

23:09

you're part of the Coca-Cola Scholars

23:11

Network now and that is worth something

23:14

in addition to the

23:17

money so yes you get $20,000 you apply

23:20

for this in senior year for the cocaa 1

23:23

the National Merit is actually based on

23:25

your PSAT so take the PSAT seriously

23:29

because the um top scores for those get

23:32

qualified for a scholarship in National

23:35

Merit most people don't know that and

23:36

don't take this PSAT seriously this is

23:40

more important than your sat in some

23:41

ways you can retake the SAT however many

23:44

times you want you get one

23:46

PSAT so

23:49

yeah a lot of people at my school didn't

23:52

think about

23:53

that and then there's the Elk's most

23:55

valuable student award this is one that

23:58

I have

23:59

one um it's need-based or Merit based

24:02

it's for high school seniors apply

24:03

during your senior year this is also

24:05

very competitive to get because these

24:06

are all

24:09

national now this is going down I don't

24:12

have as much in this category because

24:14

it's local so here's an example of a

24:17

local one is a Flynn Scholars Program

24:20

which is specifically for Arizona

24:23

students that's what makes it local I

24:25

cannot apply to the Flynn Scholars

24:27

Program because I am from Illinois so

24:31

this already cuts out a large P portion

24:34

of the world it's still difficult but if

24:37

you're like if you're like an insane

24:40

high schooler in Arizona how many more

24:43

insane high schoolers are there in

24:45

Arizona that you're competing with

24:47

because that's how you win a real

24:48

scholarship is applying with a smaller

24:51

applicant

24:52

pool and then there's these other things

24:54

called Community foundations you're

24:56

going to want to search that up um it's

24:58

highly based on your state where you're

25:00

from uh yeah I can't really give you

25:04

guys specific examples of local

25:05

scholarships that is coming from your

25:07

guidance counselor but these are the

25:10

most important ones because of that low

25:17

application so what do I mean by school

25:19

specific scholarships here's what I mean

25:22

school specific scholarships

25:25

are essentially scholarships

25:28

you can get only if you are applying to

25:31

that school so or a specific group of

25:35

schools for example five strong

25:37

scholarship or third Good Marshall

25:40

College Fund these are for HBCU

25:43

historically black colleges

25:47

um and yeah so if you're applying to an

25:50

HBCU there's a ton of scholarships

25:52

specifically targeted for students going

25:54

to HBCU so check that out now the

25:58

Jefferson Scholars Program is a specific

26:01

program for University of Virginia so if

26:04

you're applying to you University of

26:06

Virginia you can get full rides there's

26:08

a lot more full ride scholarships

26:10

specific to schools so you don't have to

26:13

apply for like uh companies that are

26:16

giving out full rides or

26:18

foundations sometimes your school will

26:21

often give out a full ride if you're a

26:23

really good student and have great

26:25

academics a lot of like University

26:27

Alabama Public Schools they give out

26:29

full ride scholarships to get the best

26:32

um students with high GPA High SATs um

26:36

convince them to come to their school

26:38

instead of an Ivy

26:39

League because Ivy Leagues are expensive

26:42

you don't necessarily get money at these

26:45

top schools but they can offer you free

26:48

ride just like they can to an

26:51

athlete so check that out Morhead cane

26:54

is for UNCC Chapel Hill and there's tons

26:57

tons more these are all I can fit on

26:59

this

27:01

slide all right need-based scholarships

27:04

are if you're if you're able to apply

27:06

for a need-based scholarship you are

27:09

very fortunate in this regard because

27:12

there are so many need-based

27:14

scholarships need-based is the highest

27:18

amount of scholarships I'd say there are

27:20

available every scholarship if it's not

27:24

completely need- based at least takes

27:26

into consideration the fact that you

27:28

need money so if you're from a lowincome

27:31

household you are going to have so many

27:34

opportunities to apply for scholarships

27:36

there's the questbridge program which

27:38

matches you with top Ivy Leagues MIT

27:41

other schools you get matched with it

27:43

you get a full ride don't have to worry

27:46

about money at

27:47

all of course the schools themselves

27:50

were will often just straight up give

27:53

you a full ride like if you go to MIT

27:55

and you are a lowincome student you do

27:57

not have to pay a thing you MIT meets

28:01

your full need your full need um and

28:06

will completely like completely cover

28:10

everything and that is the same for

28:11

every ivy league so you don't need to

28:14

worry about money if you're from a

28:15

lowincome

28:20

household the Jack Kent cook scholarship

28:23

is additionally for lowincome students

28:26

you apply for this when in high high

28:28

school or Beyond and Dell Scholars is

28:31

also a high school one should have wrote

28:33

that down a lot of these are um last

28:36

year of high school senior year um and

28:38

this is $20,000 for students with

28:41

financial need and often these

28:43

scholarships come with a little bit of

28:45

extra things like program

28:48

support like they want to make sure you

28:50

graduate college because this is a group

28:53

that is often left behind that is often

28:55

found not able to graduate college is at

28:58

high rates so they are going to provide

29:00

you the support and resources in

29:02

addition to the money to be able to

29:04

graduate and that is an amazing thing

29:07

you need to be looking for these

29:08

need-based

29:09

scholarships um if you

29:14

qualify okay let's talk about

29:16

identity-based scholarships there are so

29:18

many identity based of course the main

29:21

ones come down to race ethnicity and

29:23

religion if you're a Hispanic there's a

29:26

Hispanic scholarship fund Ron Brown

29:28

Scholars is for black students Jewish

29:31

Federation um there's every religion has

29:34

scholarships every race has scholarships

29:37

Asian Pacific Islander um this pretty

29:40

easy to narrow down um it is still

29:42

competitive cuz there's a lot of like

29:45

people of a certain race applying to

29:47

these but it is less competitive than a

29:50

completely national scholarship like the

29:52

Coca-Cola Scholars where everyone is

29:56

applying so take a look look at these

29:59

make sure you know which identities you

30:01

fall under look for your

30:06

foundations okay major based

30:08

scholarships you'd be surprised see I

30:10

was surprised when I found out about

30:12

what the James Beard Foundation is this

30:14

is a scholarship for students pursuing

30:17

culinary arts and Hospitality so if you

30:19

want to be a cook you can get money for

30:21

that from this Foundation if you want to

30:24

do stem which is pretty much the most

30:26

common major based scholarship there are

30:28

hundreds of thousands of scholarships

30:31

for stem Majors one example is the

30:34

locked Martin stem scholarship for

30:38

students pursuing stem degrees and of

30:40

course the government is also going to

30:42

try and recruit you for stem Majors so

30:45

that you can work for the government

30:48

we'll talk more about that in a later

30:49

slide but everyone wants a stem major to

30:52

work at their organization so they're

30:55

going to go ahead and pay for your

30:56

college so that you come and work for

30:58

them later

30:59

on and then you've got the AIA AA

31:03

scholarships which is for Aerospace and

31:07

then I have a link here which is a bonus

31:09

I will keep it in the description this

31:11

is just a straight up link to every

31:14

major in the scholarships which you can

31:16

find related to that major so I got you

31:19

guys with that

31:22

one should I click on it I'll I'll show

31:24

you I'll put a cut scene in to show you

31:26

what this link has

31:31

okay finally or this isn't this is even

31:34

the last one guys this isn't even I

31:36

don't even have every category but these

31:38

are just some examples of all the

31:41

scholarships that I know about and I'm

31:43

going to show you guys my full list a

31:44

little bit later on as well so you've

31:46

got the government scholarships Roc they

31:49

want you for the military um they're

31:51

going to pay for your tuition the dod

31:53

Department of Defense if you're a stem

31:54

student you can work for the Department

31:56

of Defense after they'll pay your

31:58

college now there's competition based if

32:01

you ever you've got to know about the

32:04

Liv Moss Taco Bell scholarship this is a

32:08

scholarship you film a two-minute video

32:11

about your passion you can win up to

32:14

$25,000 it's basically a competition no

32:17

essays no they don't care about your GPA

32:19

they don't care about your sat this is

32:22

simply straight up a competition um and

32:25

then of course this one which most

32:28

people don't even think about is essay

32:30

based writing comp contests um you just

32:35

straight up win prize money for writing

32:37

an essay which is what you do in your

32:39

scholarship anyway so this I'm

32:41

considering this a scholarship write a

32:43

good essay get money you can use that

32:47

for books whatever you

32:51

want now for you International students

32:54

I know we've got plenty of those um

32:57

there's three three good ones Empower

32:59

Global citizen MasterCard foundation and

33:02

American University emerging Global

33:04

leader these are going to be a lot more

33:06

competitive International students have

33:08

a lot of competition I'm sorry but if

33:12

you could get these they're pretty good

33:15

I mean the

33:17

Au um is only for one student a year but

33:21

it's full tuition and Empower Global

33:24

citizen is for international students

33:26

studying in the US

33:28

that there's not many scholarships um

33:30

there's not many foundations that do

33:32

that so this is a good one and then of

33:34

course the MasterCard Foundation is

33:37

specifically for African students so go

33:39

ahead and look for your country there

33:41

might be specific scholarships for your

33:43

country or location or town

33:47

um

33:50

yeah now here we go I promise to speak

33:53

to you guys about these special

33:55

scholarships we've got the blue eyes

33:58

scholarship which you can get money for

34:00

having blue eyes a little weird but yeah

34:05

someone's out there giving money to

34:07

people with blue eyes unfortunately I

34:09

cannot apply um Northwestern Mutual is

34:13

giving out a scholarship for siblings of

34:16

children with Childhood Cancer so that's

34:19

how specific this gets if your sibling

34:22

unfortunately had a Childhood Cancer you

34:26

can apply for this scholarship which is

34:29

pretty crazy to think like that's how

34:33

specific this

34:34

is so that's why I was trying to get

34:36

into write down all of those specific

34:39

things about yourself think about

34:41

exactly what is special about you um or

34:46

something that you have gone through and

34:47

overcome that other people have

34:49

not that goes into the next one which is

34:52

like 9/11 children of parents who either

34:56

died or were like disabled in 911 who

34:59

are affected by 911

35:03

those those children have access to so

35:06

many scholarships like it's insane the

35:10

amount of 9911 related scholarships

35:12

there are but yeah they're they're out

35:15

there and then as I mentioned the tall

35:18

Club scholarship for students who are

35:22

tall I actually applied to this but I I

35:25

don't think I got it

35:28

but if you're tall go ahead maybe

35:30

there's a short Club scholarship too I

35:32

don't know I had to check that

35:36

out but yeah it's

35:39

crazy it's crazy how unusual the

35:41

scholarships can

35:43

get so yeah think

35:48

deep so we talked about every single

35:51

type of scholarship in here there's some

35:54

categories which I didn't even have room

35:56

to include so you can see how deep this

36:00

gets you will find your scholarship and

36:03

if you apply to that one you're winning

36:06

so it's more about finding the correct

36:09

scholarship and applying to it well than

36:11

applying to a

36:14

100 like 100 with your 4.0 GPA and

36:18

expecting to

36:20

win cuz everyone's got that

36:23

um cuz everyone's cuz everyone's got

36:26

those stats at this level

36:29

and it's like it's equivalent to

36:31

applying to an ivy league and and not

36:35

like a safety school you want to apply

36:37

to the scholarships you actually know

36:40

that you can win and that's how you get

36:42

that

36:45

money now of course we have those

36:49

categories right but we haven't talked

36:52

about combining the categories so yes

36:55

there are all of these categories but

36:57

you can also combine the categories you

36:59

combine women and stem you get the

37:02

Society of women Engineers scholarship

37:04

so that's an identity and a major you

37:08

com you combine minority and need you

37:10

get the gate scholarship that's an

37:12

identity and a need-based scholarship so

37:14

you can go across categories combine

37:17

several categories the more categories

37:19

you

37:20

combine the less competition you have

37:23

because you might be a minority but you

37:25

might not have need but if you have both

37:27

both now you can apply to this

37:29

scholarship that not many people can

37:31

apply

37:33

to so I'm going to have my full

37:35

scholarship list um in the description

37:37

I'm going to talk more about this later

37:39

um but I'm going to have a I have a

37:41

disor Discord Network Community which

37:45

updates my full list of scholarships um

37:49

with which updates my full scholarship

37:51

list constantly so you always have the

37:53

latest scholarships um you have access

37:55

to the local scholarships for people who

37:58

are in that

37:59

community and we're going to talk more

38:01

about this later on but yeah I have way

38:04

more scholarships for you guys I have my

38:05

full list in this um

38:09

community so now that you actually know

38:12

what your scholarships are let's talk

38:14

about how you can actually write the

38:17

essay to win that money and win those

38:20

scholarships and there's a right way to

38:22

do this and it's actually a lot simpler

38:24

than you think

38:27

so the good news is there are actually

38:30

six prompts which are the most common

38:32

ones that a scholarship is going to ask

38:35

you and even better these a lot of these

38:38

prompts are going to align with exactly

38:40

the same things as your college

38:42

applications are so really a lot of the

38:45

work you're doing is already done when

38:47

you're applying to

38:51

college so let's look at what these are

38:54

the first three are going to be why do

38:55

you need or deserve the this award

38:58

what's your major and why and our

39:00

mission is blank how will you help or

39:03

how do you fit

39:04

in so why are these questions being

39:07

asked um the why you need SL deserve

39:10

this award they want to know if you need

39:12

it and if you're qualified to deserve it

39:16

basically so you're going to want to

39:18

write about your financial need um why

39:21

you think you need this scholarship to

39:22

help you pay for your education um

39:25

things like that now the reason they ask

39:28

what's your major which um as you can

39:31

tell when you're applying to college is

39:33

the same question they're going to ask

39:35

you is they want to know what you hope

39:38

to do after graduation and how that fits

39:41

into your goals if you're a motivated

39:43

person how you're going to change the

39:45

world if this Scholarship Foundation can

39:48

brag about you

39:50

basically

39:51

[Music]

39:52

so so you're want to you're going to

39:54

kind of want to tie your major in to

39:58

big high impact things that you want to

40:00

do after you graduate such as helping

40:03

people

40:04

or even better if you can align that

40:07

with what the foundation is interested

40:12

in in the third one they're straight up

40:15

asking you how are you helping our

40:17

mission which is a pretty clear um Point

40:22

these foundations under under the

40:24

surface of everything under the surface

40:26

of all the questions they're going to

40:27

ask you it's all to really get down to

40:30

this question how do you affect our

40:33

mission how do you fit in why should we

40:35

pick you um these foundations aren't

40:39

really just giving away money just

40:41

because they need tax benefits they want

40:43

to align their scholarship recipients

40:47

with either a future employee of theirs

40:50

they want to be able to brag about

40:53

you as someone they have invested in and

40:56

the investment PID

40:58

off so how can you impact their mission

41:02

how can you move forward their

41:06

[Music]

41:09

purpose okay the other the next three is

41:12

going to be what is a failure you've

41:14

overcome how would you solve a problem

41:17

this like a prompt that they're going to

41:20

give you or what is your most

41:22

significant activity or achievement

41:25

these are the six prompts that you see

41:27

over and over again obviously there's

41:29

going to be outliers but if you can

41:31

reuse these this is the best thing

41:35

ever why are they asking about a failure

41:37

you've overcome they want to know about

41:39

your resilience your

41:41

growth don't Focus so much on the

41:44

failure

41:46

um obviously you don't want to make

41:48

yourself look bad but you also want to

41:50

talk about something serious

41:55

[Music]

41:59

why the reason they might give you

42:01

prompt five is they're trying to

42:05

see

42:07

uh the reason they might give you prompt

42:09

five is to be honest this is just like

42:13

they ran out questions or something they

42:15

want to figure out if you're creative

42:17

they want to remember you so put

42:18

something down that memorable that is

42:21

the most important thing if they can

42:22

remember your application out of

42:24

hundreds out of thousands you're going

42:26

to to have a way to stand out and that's

42:30

what is important it doesn't really

42:32

matter how you solve a problem if it's

42:35

effective if it's even realistic all

42:38

that matters is being

42:41

memorable now prompt number six they

42:43

want to understand what you value who

42:46

you are who your character is what

42:48

motivates you sure you could put your

42:50

most important award your most

42:53

impressive accomplishment but you should

42:55

probably highlight something that aligns

42:57

with their mission that shows the kind

42:59

of person you are maybe you've won

43:02

something maybe you've like been awarded

43:05

the national Medal of Honor but maybe

43:09

you choose to write about your 300

43:11

volunteer hours in this for this prompt

43:15

because the organization cares about

43:18

service and helping

43:25

others okay so here's an example of a

43:28

question and how I would potentially

43:31

respond obviously the response is cut a

43:33

little bit short so it's

43:36

abbreviated so for the why do you need

43:38

the scholarship let's say that's a

43:40

question how do you respond to this

43:43

let's look at this this scholarship

43:45

would allow me to focus on my studies

43:46

and research without the burden of

43:48

financial

43:50

stress obviously if you have more of a

43:53

need-based

43:54

um if you're if you have more of a need

43:57

based issue go more in depth with this

44:00

if you're if you're really applying for

44:02

scholarships just to like easier

44:06

Financial burdens just write something

44:08

something more simple that says I can

44:11

focus on my my research without the

44:14

burden of financial

44:17

stress um and then obviously they expand

44:21

into more importantly I'd be empowered

44:23

to continue innovating and invest and by

44:25

investing in me you're not just funding

44:27

a student you're supporting a future

44:28

engineer dedicated to solving real world

44:30

problems so there they go ahead and

44:33

elaborate on how this isn't just them

44:37

spending money on a student they're

44:39

investing in someone who cares about the

44:42

world and who's going to change the

44:44

world make yourself into the person they

44:47

want to invest

44:49

in so I'm sure you've heard the saying

44:52

the customer is always right I'm taking

44:55

that saying and putting a spin on it the

44:58

foundation is always right what does

45:01

that mean I've already alluded to this

45:03

multiple times in this section you need

45:05

to be answering in a way that makes the

45:08

foundation want to give you money and

45:12

not because you're some special great

45:14

person who's done amazing things but

45:16

because you're the person who is perfect

45:19

for this foundation and for carrying out

45:22

their mission because you are dedicated

45:24

and you're going to make it happen

45:27

so in these questions where it says our

45:29

mission is blank this is the most

45:32

important question more important than

45:34

your achievements than your GPA anything

45:37

is how do you relate to this Foundation

45:40

you could apply to any scholarship why

45:42

are you applying to this one so our

45:44

mission is supporting the transportation

45:46

industry how will you help this person

45:49

is a computer science major they

45:51

probably haven't thought about

45:52

transportation that much but there's a

45:55

nice way to write this answer answer as

45:57

you'll see as a computer science and

46:00

electrical engineering major at MIT I am

46:02

passionate about using my engineering to

46:04

positiv positively impact the world I am

46:07

excited by opportunities to apply my

46:10

engineering major towards the

46:11

transportation industry I have secured

46:14

an internship with the state government

46:16

to analyze traffic patterns to reduce

46:18

congestion now this isn't the

46:21

greatest tie into the transportation

46:23

industry in the world but it is

46:25

something you have some amount of proven

46:29

history like that you might be

46:31

interested in the transportation

46:32

industry to go on with this response I

46:35

would include things about what I hope

46:37

to do in the transportation industry in

46:39

the

46:40

future so even though you might not be

46:44

able to say that you are the best person

46:48

for the transportation industry you need

46:51

to find things that you've done and how

46:53

they relate to the transportation

46:55

industry you you need to find

46:59

ways you need to find ways in which

47:02

you're going to help the transportation

47:04

industry and maybe you do those things

47:07

maybe you don't don't lie but plans

47:11

change uh things shift around but make

47:14

sure you can somehow make it look like

47:16

you're someone who can actually do what

47:19

they want you to do be the kind of

47:21

person they want to brag about on their

47:24

little post on their website

47:28

they don't want to brag about the person

47:30

who's coded an app they want to brag

47:32

about the person who's analyzing traffic

47:35

patterns to reduce congestion for the

47:37

state

47:43

government okay so now we know how to

47:46

write the winning essay let's talk about

47:48

strategy a little bit this is going to

47:50

be the shortest section because strategy

47:53

really varies among each person I'm

47:55

going to go over a basic Str strategy

47:57

that I used which is obviously apply

48:00

early there's certain things you're

48:03

going to want to apply basically a month

48:05

out there are certain things you can

48:07

like plan out you can do your basic info

48:10

like a week in the first week that's

48:12

nothing outline your essays request your

48:15

letters of recommendation a lot of

48:18

scholarships require letters of wreck

48:20

and you need to get a recommender down

48:23

who can continuously provide keep

48:26

spitting out letters of recck to all of

48:28

your all of your scholarship

48:30

applications they are invaluable so make

48:33

sure you have that

48:36

relationship let's see and then of

48:38

course revise your essays the the essays

48:42

should be reusable from your college

48:44

applications that is the strategy here

48:46

you take essays that you've done you

48:48

repurpose them make sure you're

48:51

repurposing them well don't leave out

48:54

don't leave in Old information Etc

48:58

but yeah once you get going it's so much

49:01

easier to apply to other scholarships

49:03

you can use previous scholarship

49:04

applications you can use all of the work

49:07

you've already done it accumulates it's

49:09

not like a new application after you've

49:11

done a

49:13

few and then apply to hundreds and like

49:15

I said yes this seems daunting but you

49:18

have to do it and this is how you win

49:22

and you have the essays to use to apply

49:26

to to these because they're reusing

49:29

they're re they're reusing prompts

49:31

you're going to reuse essays and unless

49:34

they say specifically say don't but 90%

49:37

of these scholarships are getting chat

49:40

GPT essays by by simply writing your own

49:43

essays you're already ahead of 50% of

49:46

the applications right and so you're

49:50

going to want to apply to a lot of

49:51

scholarships low dollar medium dollar

49:54

high dollar all all of them all of them

49:58

should be applied to don't leave out

50:01

some because you feel like it's too low

50:03

money for you if you want that if you

50:05

want that scholarship you start at the

50:08

bottom and you work your way up don't

50:11

only apply for the top full tuition

50:13

scholarships and be disappointed when

50:15

you get

50:16

nothing those little ones add up really

50:22

fast and then of course optional step

50:25

you can go ahead and give back compile a

50:28

list of your scholarships um this is why

50:30

I made this video to give back to you

50:33

guys um give give my knowledge out put

50:36

scholarships and the list that I have

50:50

which going into it my full scholarship

Interactive Summary

This video, presented by an MIT student who has secured over $500,000 in scholarships, offers a comprehensive guide on how to identify, apply for, and win scholarships. The author debunks the myths that high academic scores are the only way to win and emphasizes that many scholarships go unclaimed because students do not know how to find them. The core strategy involves categorizing oneself—listing personal, family, and extracurricular attributes—to find niche, identity-based, or school-specific scholarships that have less competition. The presenter highlights the importance of targeting 'moat-heavy' scholarships over lottery-style ones, tailoring essays to align with a foundation's mission, and utilizing resources like guidance counselors and specialized databases.
