The Copilot Problem
215 segments
So, we've named our DVD service
Quickster.
>> Now, I've seen some pretty bad naming
conventions. This happened to be one of
the single worst ones that we've ever
seen. But it turns out that Microsoft
actually has decided that they want the
crown. They want to be number one in the
single worst naming conventions. And of
course, I'm talking about Co-Pilot,
which is kind of funny cuz during
research for this video, I just searched
up worst naming conventions company. And
even Gemini was just like, "Yo, it's
Microsoft." Yeah, if you're wondering,
it's actually Microsoft. Microsoft is
like the worst. And that actually
reminded me, there's this whole Xbox
thing, you know, the old one Xbox One
Xbox
Microsoft or the whole remote desktop
being renamed into Windows app. This is
just so bad. But really, the true crime
comes with Copilot. If you're not
familiar with Copilot, Copilot has a
long and rich history. It first started
off on GitHub. So, this is like 2022,
late 2022, maybe October, and GitHub
releases C-Pilot. It is this
autocomplete inliner that you can be
able to write code significantly faster
by having it. And honestly, it was a
pretty wild time. This was a lot of
programmers kind of first introduction
into the chat jeopardy series. And of
course, unlike today, AI wasn't hyped or
just insane. See, in 2023, people had
really reasonable and normal takes. They
weren't saying things like it's so over
or AI is going to take your jobs. No,
we're just a bunch of levelheaded devs
having nice discussions on the internet.
Anyways, a short while later after
Microsoft saw the grand success of
Microsoft GitHub's copilot, Microsoft
decided to have Microsoft Copilot also.
So that way you could have Microsoft
GitHub copilot and Microsoft copilot so
that way you can have your cooperating
system cooperate with you. Yes. So that
means literally Microsoft had co-pilot
the chat interface and also C-pilot the
GitHub programming interface which by
the way I don't know if you noticed this
there was also GitHub copilot X okay
GitHub Copilot pen maybe I'm not really
sure if that's Roman numeral or not but
there was actually two versions of
GitHub Copilot during this time but that
just wasn't enough for Microsoft okay
they wanted something even better they
wanted the co-pilot
PC meet the computer you can talk to. Go
ahead. Just ask co-pilot anything.
>> Grandma needs to make the text bigger.
The text is just too small. So, we just
ask co-pilot. Hey, co-pilot.
>> Hey there, Judner. What's on your mind
today?
>> I want to make the text on my screen
bigger. Can you show me where to click
to do that?
>> All right, Judner. I've highlighted the
display option for you. Click there to
adjust text. Imagine if Copilot could
just, I don't know, click it instead of
highlighting it for you.
>> Size and other display settings.
>> Can you show me what to click next?
>> I've highlighted the scale setting for
you. Click there to change the size of
text, apps, and other items.
>> What percentage should I click?
>> Let's start by selecting 150.
>> I love that part. Let's start by
selecting 150. Dude, you started off
with make my font bigger and the
suggestion is to keep it the same. Oh my
gosh. By the way, this video was deleted
because of how much it got made fun of.
I love that co-pilot got prompt injected
by a recommended like it saw it went
through the list. It went, "Ah, yo, 150
recommended for you, baby. I got I got
you." But maybe that's not enough
co-pilots for you. Maybe you want
co-pilot plus PC with your co-pilot
Windows experience. That way you can
have a proper co-operating system. Yes.
See, this C-pilot Plus is actually a PC
designed to run Microsoft Copilot, but
not Microsoft Copilot Chat. We're
talking about Microsoft Copilot Windows
Copilot Edition. Don't get them
confused. They're completely different
and it's pretty obvious which one I'm
talking about at this current moment.
When I say the word Copilot, I'm not
talking about the hardware side on
Copilot Plus or the chat side. I'm
talking about the operating system side.
But honestly, if this list confuses you,
just go to their docs and decide which
co-pilot's right for me and my
organization. I know this isn't about
all the different co-pilots. It's just
funny that they even have a doc trying
to explain to you what Microsoft Copilot
you should be using and that is because
maybe you want to use Microsoft 365
copilot. Now this is obviously not
Microsoft Copilot. This is Microsoft 365
Copilot. This is not PC copilot and this
is not copilot plus PC. Okay, you
technically on your co-pilot plus PC
using PC co-pilot could actually have
your co-pilot chat recommend your
co-pilot 365 if that is that that's
that's if if you want that kind of game.
You know what I'm talking about. Satia,
don't even try to play koi with me. If
we keep this up, Satia is going to show
you why they call it Microsoft. But
honestly, if you'd like to go to the
next level, you don't even want
Microsoft 365 copilot. You want
Microsoft Dynamic 365 Copilot. The new
era of AI powered business. The king of
all the co-pilot. Oh, wait, wait, no,
no. I I was wrong. Actually, the true
king of all co-pilots is co-pilot
checkout and brand agents. Yes, a
partnership with PayPal. Microsoft now
has C-pilot Checkout. Now, you're
probably thinking there's just no
possibility that this could get any
worse because honestly, after all of
that, I'm even a little bit confused.
Okay, I I spent an unordinary amount of
time going through all the different
co-pilots and leaving several on the
table cuz it's just entirely too absurd.
The tweet isn't really exaggerating. And
just in case you need a friendly
diagram, you can look at this really
quickly. But I want to actually jump
back to this old Xbox thing because I
realize something. There's an
opportunity here that I think Microsoft
Microsoft is preparing for. Okay, I
think we're about to see a co-pilot Xbox
edition. Okay, Cortana 2.0. Yes, maybe
they killed one of my favorite iconic
characters from Halo. Actually, I mean,
technically, they killed her a while
ago. Okay, Halo Infinite. RIP Cortana.
Also, RIP Halo ever since pretty much
like Halo 5. But Microsoft has decided
that you know who needs to lead up the
next Xbox game division right here.
Well, the new CEO of Microsoft gaming,
Asha Chararma. Guess what? She was the
president of Microsoft Core AI. Yes, she
probably oversaw all of the little
co-pilots. So, you already know where
this is going. Co-pilot Gaming.
Everybody, I want you to buckle up,
okay? Because honestly, you don't have
enough AI in your life. We're going to
make AI in all of it. AI will continue
until morale improves in which it will
still continue anyways because honestly,
the only thing that really matters is
shareholder value. If you're not
delivering value, what are you doing?
So, that means I need you. Yes, you to
play more games. And I want you to have
more co-pilot AI in those games. So that
way you can show adoption which shows
shareholder value which gets this nice
lady an epic bonus because honestly
that's the way the world works. The name
is the copilogen. Actually no the name's
not that. I don't want to get sued by
Microsoft. Uh the name's obviously the
primogen. Okay. I don't I don't need any
debacles here. I certainly don't want to
become another Mike Row like that.
That's not I I don't want that at all.
So, please please Microsoft, this my
name is just the prime engine. Nothing
to do with your stuff, okay? Your
stuff's completely different. Uh, thank
you very much. A gen. Hey, is that HTTP?
Get that out of here. That's not how we
order coffee. We order coffee via ssh
terminal.shop. Yeah, you want a real
experience. You want real coffee. You
want awesome subscriptions so you never
have to remember again. Oh, you want
exclusive blends with exclusive coffee
and exclusive content? Then check out
CRON. You don't know what SSH is?
>> Well, maybe the coffee is not for you.
Living the dream.

The video criticizes Microsoft's consistently poor naming conventions, highlighting its "Copilot" branding as the pinnacle of confusion. Starting with GitHub Copilot for code in late 2022, Microsoft rapidly expanded the "Copilot" name to numerous products including "Microsoft Copilot," "Copilot PC," "Copilot Plus PC," "Microsoft 365 Copilot," and "Dynamic 365 Copilot," creating a bewildering array. The speaker lampoons a Copilot PC demo for its ineffectiveness, as it failed to suggest a meaningful text size change, and predicts a future "Copilot Gaming" initiative, driven by the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming who previously led Core AI, all in pursuit of shareholder value.
