NASA's Curiosity rover is a car-sized
robotic explorer on Mars, part of the
Mars Science Laboratory mission. It
landed on Mars in August 2012 and has
been exploring Gail Crater and Mount
Sharp, searching for the evidence of
past habitability and the presence of
organic molecules.
Part of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory
mission, Curiosity was the largest and
the most capable rover ever sent to Mars
when it launched in 2011. Curiosity set
out to answer the question, did Mars
ever have the right environmental
conditions to support small life called
microbes? Early in its mission,
Curiosity's scientific tools found
chemical and mineral evidence of past
habitable environments on Mars. It
continues to explore the rock record
from a time when Mars could have been
home to microbi life. NASA's jet

This video details the activities of NASA's Curiosity rover on Mars, specifically highlighting images captured on its 4,942nd sol (July 2, 2026). It provides an overview of the mission's objectives, including the search for past habitability and signs of microbial life, as well as the roles played by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Caltech in managing the mission.
