I Let My Kids Plan Our Entire Date Night
577 segments
You're not going to shave my head.
>> Where are you going?
>> You have to tell me. You won.
>> YEAH, I win.
>> Pink hair.
>> Pink hair.
>> I'm afraid. Oh my gosh.
>> Hi, I'm Hannah. I'm the world's mom. And
this is a bit of a double whammy
episode. A long time ago, I let Jackson
and Wyatt plan our date night. It was so
fun. We want to do it again. So, we're
going [music] to let the kids plan our
date night. But on top of that, I'm
going to let them pick my haircut and
hair color. I've [music] done it once
before, but only with Jackson and Wyatt.
So, we are here at [snorts] the hair
salon right now. Wish me luck. Let's see
what happens. Can we go over the rules
really quickly? [music] So, for this
hair, it has to be a treatment she can
do in one day. So, a color she can
achieve. Today,
>> I'm going to pick
>> Oh, you can pick whatever cut, whatever
color is possible. You ready?
>> Yeah. We are at my friend's hair salon.
She's been doing my hair for years and
years and years. I trust her. Can you
guys just promise me one thing? Can we
all put our hands in and promise? You're
not going to shave my head. 1 2 3.
Promise.
>> Okay, I'm going to leave you to it.
Remember what we promised?
>> Not to make you bald.
>> Yes. Please don't make me bald. Beyond
that, [music] it's up to you guys. Okay.
>> Mhm.
>> I'm excited. This is going to be a
surprise for me, so I'm not going to
listen. So, what are you guys thinking?
What color do you want to do for your
mom's hair? What are you thinking? Oh,
you're thinking pink. [laughter]
>> Pink hair.
>> Bright pink hair.
>> Her color she has is really cool. Maybe
like brighter.
>> A brighter version of what she
>> made it brighter.
>> Well, it sounds like you guys like the
pinks. So maybe
>> What would you guys think about doing
like some pink highlights? Like a
lighter version of what she has with the
color she has. Do [music] you think you
like that?
>> Uhhuh.
>> What do you guys think about her
haircut? What are you thinking?
>> Still wrong.
>> She got a perm.
>> I'm afraid. It [snorts] sounds like
they're arguing, which is never a good
sign.
>> Okay, so layers.
>> Stop.
>> Do you want her to have still [music]
the same bangs? Do you want her to have
layers? Her hair is really long right
now, so put movement. And you know how
she has the bangs? We could like frame
it.
>> Does that sound cool?
>> What do you guys think?
>> Go this one. [laughter]
>> They're just feeling hair.
>> Are we wanting to go shorter? Do you
want to keep it long?
>> We should do this.
>> Okay. Well, hopefully they agree on
something. I'm surrendering my hair to
you. I'm nervous about two things. The
one unifier with my kids is like a love
of poop jokes. So, I'm a little
concerned to the other thing that I'm
nervous about. If I leave the house, I
get a compliment on my hair and it
really boosts my confidence. So, I'm
nervous to give that up, but I really
want to try something [music] new. Also,
look, I haven't cut my hair in a hundred
years. When was the last time you cut
your hair?
>> Um, probably when you cut it.
>> I think it's gonna turn out great. We're
gonna keep you turned away
>> from the mirror. So, you will not be
able to see it.
>> I'm not going to peek. [music]
>> And when and if I have to cut, we'll
just have you like close your eyes.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. There it goes. [laughter]
My hair doesn't look different.
>> Well, it's wet right now, so we'll see
what the color is when it dries. I have
a surprise for you.
>> You get to pick a color to put in your
hair. Are you guys excited?
>> Yeah.
>> What about for your guys' self?
>> I want this one.
>> You want pink? Do you like any of these
colors, Henry?
>> A blue. Okay.
>> Neon blue. I want pink.
>> And you want pink?
>> Neon pink.
>> Okay.
>> Henry, where do you want the blue? Do
you want me to show you yourself in the
mirror and you can tell us? [music] Like
here.
>> Okay.
>> Both sides.
>> Oo, you look sides. Sure.
>> I think it's going to match his eyes.
>> Oh, it's going to [laughter] be so cute.
>> Okay, we'll do both sides. Okay. Henry
following in the footsteps of his mother
with the blue hair.
>> It's just direct eye. It's nothing
permanent.
>> Not permanent hair color. Yes. It's
something that's just conditioner and
pigment.
>> Do you like the blue?
Look at that processing hair. Lenny,
what color do you want?
>> This is your dream, Lenny. Just being
pampered. Again, this is safe. No
bleach, nothing.
>> Yes, girl. You look so cute. [laughter]
All right, I think we're done. I'm
excited for you to see it.
>> All right. Are you guys ready to see her
hair?
>> Yay.
>> Okay. One, two, three.
>> I am so relieved [laughter] right now.
>> Oh my gosh.
>> It's a little darker.
>> Wait, gave me a regular hair
appointment. I cannot tell you how
relieved I feel right now. [music] I
absolutely love this. While the
transformation is not so shocking or
different, I was absolutely shocked.
They're really silly. I was fully
[music] expecting a wacky hair
transformation. Instead of thinking,
"What do I want to see on mom's hair?"
They're thinking, "What would mom like
for her hair?" Not only is that so
unbelievably sweet, [music] it just
shows me how mature they're getting and
how thoughtful they are. [music] It's
like a little darker.
>> I know it's hard to tell in the light.
some pops of highlights.
>> Yeah. Did you just do it cuz you know
that I love it.
>> It looks so good on you. Like the color.
>> Thank you so much. And the cut is
incredible. I actually have some volume
to my hair.
>> They specifically wanted layers
>> really.
>> And they liked your bangs. So yeah,
>> it's definitely not this deep [music]
for the kids. But for me, my hair is so
much of my identity. It's been my
identity for [music] years and years and
years. So having them choose the color
is especially deep and scary for me
because it [music] is such a huge part
of my identity. Also, I know a lot of
you were hoping for blue hair to make a
comeback. I get asked [music] pretty
much weekly when the blue hair is going
to come back. I'm so sorry. It's [music]
just so much maintenance. I got four
kids to feed. I can't go back to the
blue hair. That was two kids hair. Now I
have four kids hair. Oh gosh. I cannot
thank you guys enough. I cannot thank
you guys enough. I'm letting you guys do
this every time. Every time I get my
hair done, you have my full trust. I'm
ready to go out. But it is so sweet
[music] to see how just a little boost
of wash out conditioner, it can really
boost their [music] confidence. I mean,
Lenny's entire personality changed the
second she got a pink [laughter] streak
in her hair. Since Henry got the blue
streak in his hair, he has gotten so
many compliments at school and it's so
sweet to witness.
>> You see that blue?
Oh no, Lenny's upset. Go check on her. I
love it.
>> As soon as the hair was done, it's time
[music] to get home and prep for date
night. Okay, now that the hair is done,
what's the next phase?
>> Oh, makeup.
>> Yeah, you guys can pick our outfits and
our makeup.
>> That's makeup. I don't know if he wants
makeup, but I do.
>> Let's pick dad's cologne.
>> Oh, yeah. Pick his cologne. You can pick
my perfume. But here's the rule. Ready
for the clothes? It has to be weather
appropriate. So, we're not wearing
bathing suits. And it has to be activity
appropriate.
>> Where are you going?
>> You have to tell me. Figure out what
we're going to wear. Okay.
>> They wear you want to help us pick
clothes for him.
>> Each kid grabs one outfit and I'm going
to try them on and they all vote. This
is option one. This is Lenny's choice.
>> Does anybody vote for this?
>> Lenny, do you vote for this? Do you like
this outfit?
>> Pajamas to a restaurant.
>> This is kind [crying] of cool.
>> Pajamas. This is a lot.
>> I kind of like it and I kind of don't. I
don't know.
>> You kind of don't.
>> Okay, so I'll try on the next one. Okay.
>> Mhm. I really should have cleaned out my
closet before I let them go in there to
pick an outfit and give them free rain
because I have some weird stuff in
there. I'm going to be honest. I meant
to donate this.
>> I don't know why I bought this.
>> Wow, it's cool.
>> Maybe just in case I get invited to a
Mama Mia party.
>> I want to wear that.
>> Yeah,
>> you want to wear this?
>> Yeah,
>> she wants to put it on. Girl, I'll get
you one.
>> There's a time and place for a [music]
sparkly gold Abba outfit.
And maybe it's not date night. Any
thoughts, guys? I think that's cool.
>> I do like this dress a lot. Option four.
>> It's the best.
>> You can see it's got a little puff
sleeve. It's a little sheen of gold in
the thread. I got this on sample sale
for
>> the best.
>> $6. What do you vote on? The black
dress. Henry, what do you vote for?
>> The gold one.
>> The gold one. Which one? This or this?
>> Guys, what about the orange one?
two.
>> There was a lot of conflict and there
[music] were a couple of tears when the
final votes were cast.
>> We're going to have to do rock, paper,
scissors.
>> Rock, paper, scissors. Stand up. Rock,
paper, scissors. Shoot.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. It's the black dress.
>> Jackson's got good style. Honestly,
[music] he's 14. He knows what I like.
We're all in good hands when it comes to
[music] Jackson's taste. We're going to
look at makeup looks.
>> This one.
>> Oh, you want a winged eyeliner? Oh yeah.
Do this one.
>> I got to go give him a hug now. Henry
cried. Someone's a little upset. I'm not
wearing [laughter] cold.
>> Why are you
>> Oh, baby.
We had to [music] really turn the ship
around. I had to write the ship here.
So, I decided he would get a little more
say in the makeup because his outfit
that [music] he was very passionate
about was vetoed.
>> There's also Okay. So, like a dark red
lip. This is soft glam.
>> What does that mean? It's like glam but
not too crazy.
>> What is it's glam
>> like doing full makeup? Smokey eye.
>> No,
>> this is vintage makeup. [music]
>> This one. Vintage.
>> No, I want that one.
>> No.
>> '88s.
>> '88s.
>> 80s. Show me.
>> Oh, yeah. 80s.
>> When Henry [music] stumbled upon '8s
makeup and insisted on that, I didn't
think I could pull it off.
>> '88s makeup one. My sister left this
palette. So, Stella, I apologize. I'm
going to be using your palette before I
give it back. Okay. Don't really know
much about makeup. I'll never forget I
posted an Instagram story. [music] Once
that was me with my makeup done and I
said, "Oh, did my makeup today." And
someone replied saying, "Same makeup
every time. I just don't branch out and
I don't know how to do it." You guys
want to pick my jewelry?
>> Yeah. [screaming]
>> Yeah. She's her ring. Oh, what about
this eye?
>> Oh, that's creepy.
>> That's not
>> Oh, wait. This
>> ring look
>> if you want.
>> Oh no,
>> that's a nude ring.
>> Who cares?
>> Oh, I forgot to put on eye cream. Oh my
gosh. What are you doing in the bathtub?
>> I can't.
>> Okay. Can you pick up whatever you
kicked over?
>> What if mom voted for the cologne?
Depending on which one she thinks smells
best.
>> She's going to choose yours.
>> No, you know which one is my favorite.
So, you guys pick.
>> What's your favorite?
>> My favorite is this one.
>> But you need to choose your favorite out
of these.
>> Okay. No.
>> Okay, I'm going to close my eyes and
smell. Hold on.
>> The first one.
>> That smells good.
>> Second one.
>> Okay.
>> And then we got
>> Okay. Third one is my pick.
>> Come on.
>> She likes mine. She already knows.
>> This is one that got
>> You act like I'm biased.
>> I'm
Then let's have Lenny be the last voter.
Close your eyes. Lenny, smell it. Next
cologne. Now smile. And now last
cologne. Okay. Look. Close your eyes.
Close your eyes.
>> Come on. Pick the last one.
>> Which one do you like? 1, two, or three?
>> Let's go. Let's go.
>> COME ON, MAN.
>> LET'S GO.
>> THIS ISN'T.
>> WHY ARE YOU being so competitive over
cologne? I actually like this [music]
eyehadow look.
>> I think it actually went really well
with the outfit because the dress was
kind of puff sleeve. It was giving a
little 80s vibes in the cut. Then I had
the 80s makeup to go with it.
>> I've got a mood ring to wear. You guys
didn't pick my shoes.
>> It's very, very rare that we get to go
out [music] to do anything at all
without the kids. Now that Jackson is
14, lucky me, he wants to make some
extra money. So, he was highly motivated
to [music]
get babysitter certified. Who's watching
the kids tonight? Me. A
>> Jackson actually decided to get Red
Cross certified at babysitting. You are
gonna be in charge tonight.
>> Well, why is my face big? [laughter]
>> Cuz it's close to the camera. Lenny, are
you going to listen to Jackson?
>> Yes.
>> You know, Jackson is very comfortable
babysitting. [music] He has done the
first aid and the CPR training. So,
[music] in case of emergency, I think he
has the tools he needs to handle it.
Plus, the way I handle babysitting just
in general. When I used to babysit, I
would get a long list of all [music] the
things I was expected to do every minute
of the time I was babysitting. And
that's how I do things a little bit
differently. I just really want [music]
the babysitter themselves to not feel
frazzled, not feel overwhelmed, and I
just want them all safe and settled.
>> All the layers. Look at sleeves.
>> Okay,
>> I'm going out. Uh-oh. Air Force Ones.
>> Yeah. sneakers.
>> New hair.
>> Look at that dress. Wow.
>> 80s eyeshadow.
>> Looks good.
>> So, the last thing to do is figure out
where we're going. So, our first stop is
Costco.
That's
>> all right.
>> Where we're going to eat. We're going to
the Costco food court. We're a little
overdressed. You know, I understand the
sentiment. I do really, really love
their hot dogs. My kids know this about
me. So, I'm sure they picked it because
they know I like the hot dogs.
>> Caramel brownie.
>> I love this hot dog.
>> Done. Ready?
>> Yeah.
>> I've been working on the ice cream.
>> Costco is [music] my happy place. Matt
calls it my $300 therapy session.
>> Let's see your haul. Well, I'm not done
yet. Hold on. Because I always come back
in a better mood when I'm done shopping
at Costco. [music]
I think the kids logic was mom is happy
at Costco, so let's send her to Costco.
[laughter]
Now, throughout the evening, I'm
checking [music] in with Jackson. And
things were getting a little cuckoo at
home.
>> They're having a little dance party
right now. Wa! He's break dancing. Hey,
go Lenny. Go Lenny. Go Lenny. Wa!
Awesome. Good job, everyone. That was
easy. That was about the cheapest date
night dinner we've ever had. And we
splurged. We got drinks and dessert.
[music] Our next stop is actually so
fitting with my8s
eye makeup. They picked an arcade, but
it's actually a really cool arcade. It's
a restaurant and bar and it's kind of
geared towards adults, so I imagine
there's going to be a lot of 80s
classics.
>> [music]
>> I've walked by this place several times.
I've wanted to go. I've wanted to try
it. We just don't get out that much. So,
this is going to be really fun. Our next
stop was a place we've passed [music] by
a bunch of times and never gone in. It
is an arcade that's also a bar and all
of the games are retro80s [music] arcade
games and the kids have always just
wanted to go in because games. [music]
But in the evening, it doesn't seem like
the best place to bring kids. I think it
must have been stuck in the back of
their mind as a place that Matt and I
should check out. [music] I had the 80s
makeup. I had the poofy sleeves. Like, I
fit right in at [music] that spot.
>> I got a lemon cello mocktail.
It is so good.
>> You the pink one or the llama?
>> Where?
>> Right there. That one.
Come on for Lanny. Oh, she's going for
the high score.
>> Dang.
>> Oh, I will play ski ball all day. And
they had really retro old ski ball
machines. Matt kind of had to pry me
away at a certain point because I just
kept going and going and going and going
trying to beat my high [music] score.
>> There we go.
>> 390 knew me better.
Matt is very good at Pac-Man.
Wow. He was trying really [music] hard
to beat high score at Pac-Man and came
very close.
You won.
It was cool to go there and just have
fun and feel a little bit like a kid
again. That was surprisingly so fun. I
loved the coin arcade. They had a really
good mocktail menu and that place was
really cool. Hi guys.
How's it going?
>> Good.
>> How was it?
>> It was fun. What's the matter?
>> You want McDonald's? Oh my gosh. Coming
[music] back. Everything was in one
piece. They behaved especially well
[music] while we were gone.
>> We all have so many leftover quarters
from
>> I know. We got $20 worth of quarters.
Look, there's our Mrs. Pac-Man. That's
how dad's so good at it. He almost got
the high score. Oh my goodness. I heard
you were break dancing, Henry. Was he
having a dance party?
>> We were so good.
>> The reason I love to do this and the
reason we do things like this so often
is [music] because it gives us ideas
we've never had and it opens our eyes to
new experiences and just being a little
more whimsical and go with the flow,
which is something every parent needs to
[music] embrace to a certain level, I
think, especially when you have multiple
kids. Before I end this video, can we
have another moment for the hair? I love
it so much. The layers, the color,
[music] I just love it. But that's all
for now. Overall, that was such a fun
date night. None of which would have
happened if I hadn't let [music] the
kids play it. So, I really, really
enjoyed the evening. I'm so grateful
that Jackson babysat and [music] had
such an easy time of it. He's just such
a rock star and everyone behaved. So,
that's all for now. I'm Hannah. And if
you have any other video ideas, get me
on Instagram. Leave them in the
comments. If you have any thoughts,
opinions on the hair, the [music] date,
whatever, leave it in the comments as
well. My eyelids have not had eyes
shadow on them in who knows how long.
They're not used to it. I got to wash my
face. Till next time.

Hannah decided to let her children plan both her new haircut and color, as well as her upcoming date night with her husband. At the salon, the kids chose a darker shade with pink highlights and layers for Hannah's hair. They also got to pick temporary hair streaks for themselves, with Henry choosing blue and Lenny choosing pink. For the date night, the children selected Hannah's outfit (a black dress chosen after a dramatic voting process), '80s-themed makeup, jewelry, and cologne. Their 14-year-old son, Jackson, who is Red Cross certified, capably babysat his siblings. The date night involved a surprisingly simple but enjoyable trip to the Costco food court, followed by a fun evening at a retro '80s arcade bar. Hannah was pleasantly surprised by her children's thoughtful choices, which ultimately created a fun and unique experience for her and her husband.
