How To Create Skills In Claude
267 segments
Claude skills are one of the most
powerful things you could turn on inside
of Claude right now. And honestly, a lot
of people have no idea how to use it or
that it even exists. So, in this one
video, I want to show you exactly what
skills are, how to actually turn them
on, and then I'm going to show you how
to build two different skills live,
step-by-step, so you could copy it for
your own work. The first skill I'm going
to show you how to make will write your
exact brand voice, so everything sounds
like it's coming from you and not AI.
And the second one is going to show you
how to create really good-looking slides
and presentations with your brand
colors, with your logo, your style,
every single time. So, what exactly are
Claude skills? So, the easiest way to
think about this is skills are a set of
instructions that you create one time,
and then Claude remembers them forever
and pulls them in exactly when they're
needed. And the nice thing is you can
actually have 50 or 60 different skills
that are turned on in the background.
You don't have to call them. Claude
knows exactly when to load the skill
when it needs it. Inside of the Claude
website, and you could do this inside of
the Claude app, what you want to do is
go to the customize tab over here. And
then on the left side, under customize,
you'll see something called skills. So,
any skill that you've created before,
they're going to show up over here, so
they'll say author you. And then there
are other skills that other people have
created. For example, Anthropic, the
company that makes Claude, also has
skills that you could browse and add to
your own account. In this case, if you
go to the browse tab here, you'll see
all the ones that are created by
Anthropic under the skills directory.
And you could just click on each one
here, and then you could press install
here, and you could uninstall them. But,
typically, what a skill looks like is a
set of instructions, so Claude knows how
to behave a certain way. And they're not
just text. This skill, for example, you
could see it has all kinds of different
reference files and it's a complete
folder of instructions. But again, we're
not going to create that by hand. We're
actually going to have Claude create
that skill, and I'm going to show you
that next. There is one setting though
that you have to turn on before you
create a skill. So, in order to do that,
all you have to do is go to this tab
right here, capabilities of Claude. And
then, if you go down, there is this
section right here, code execution. You
need to make sure this is actually
turned on because skills do need to
write code in the background. Again, you
don't have to worry about it, but this
needs to be toggled on to blue. Okay,
let's build our first skill. This is
going to be your brand voice writer. And
that is going to be the most useful
skill that you'll have inside of Claude
because it will write your brand voice
every single time. So, in order to
create this skill, all you have to do is
you have to press add right here. And if
you want to make skills in Claude, they
have three different options for that.
One is you could create with Claude, so
this will kind of interview you and then
find your brand skill. This is a really
easy one to use. And then you could
write your own instructions. This is
more manual and more advanced. I don't
recommend it. And you could also upload
a skill. Skills can be shared with other
people. So, there are places on the
internet where you could download
skills. But again, be careful. Usually I
would recommend you build your own skill
so you have full control unless you
trust the person giving you this skill.
So, I'm going to press create with
Claude in this case and it's going to
say, "Let's create a skill together
using the skill creator skill." Now,
this skill is already part of your
account. You don't have to worry about
that. First, ask me the skill that I
should make. Now, this is going to take
you through an interview process. So,
you're going to tell it to build a skill
in your brand voice. The other option
you have, which is something I would
recommend you do, is just type out a
prompt like this. And I'm going to show
you a resource that has a of different
skills already built for you here that
you could access for free. But right
now, I want to tell it that I want to
create a skill that writes in my brand
voice every single time, and I'm going
to upload few YouTube scripts in this
case. That's what I make, but in your
case, it could be a blog, it could be an
email. However, you want to write
something, you need to give it very
specific examples of things that you
wrote yourself. And then it just told it
a little bit more about my writing style
here, but it will be able to scan it. So
next, I'm going to upload some files
right here with the upload tab. And in
this case, I just have some YouTube
scripts. You could always copy and paste
anything that you wrote before. But
typically, three writing examples that
are similar, so YouTube scripts in this
case, but three emails, three blog posts
are usually a good amount of information
for Claude to analyze. Once you send
this out, Claude is going to go to work
and start building that skill for you.
So, again, you could start with a prompt
like this with examples, or you could
interview format and just answer Claude
one question at a time to get it to do
exactly what you're looking for. And
after a few minutes here, it's going to
create that skill file, so you could
kind of read through the description on
exactly all the different pieces here to
make sure it's right. And then you could
save that skill. It's going to give you
this option right here. And if you press
save skill, now this skill is now always
part of your Claude account. Now,
there's a couple of ways you could bring
it into chat. I could ask it to write me
a YouTube script using my brand voice,
which is what it just saved, about
Claude skills. Now, it knows a lot about
my brand voice and what kind of script I
like to write. So, if I do send this
out, it's already going to write a
pretty good script for me that is going
to not require a whole lot from my
prompt. And here's my YouTube script
using that specific skill. The other
option you have is when you start a new
chat, you could type {slash} on your
keyboard, and these are all the
different skills you have on your
account. So, the one I just made, this
brand voice one, I could bring it in
this way and then follow that up with my
prompt. But, typically, you don't have
to do that as long as you create that
skill with a name that it's going to
recognize here, it's going to pull that
in on its own. And I have one more skill
that I want to show you in this video,
and I also build a really comprehensive
guide with my team all about Claude
skills. So, this is going to walk you
through the top skills that you're
actually going to want to build for
yourself, and I give you the entire
skill. You just have to copy and paste
it straight into your Claude. You don't
really need to build it step-by-step
here, but you could fully customize it
to make it your own. And this resource
is completely free. So, I'll put a link
in the description if you want to get
the most out of Claude and Claude
skills. Now, the second skill I want to
show you is how to build on-brand
presentations. And this is a huge
time-saver because Claude is really good
at building presentations just with a
simple prompt. But, every presentation's
going to look different. What you need
at work is a presentation that is
on-brand. It has your logo, it has your
colors, it has everything that your
presentations already have, but we're
going to create it with Claude. This is
how we're going to create this one. Now,
this time I'm going to start with a
prompt inside of a regular chat. I don't
need to go to the customize tab. I want
you to create a skill that builds
on-brand slide decks here for me every
single time. I'm going to give you my
logo, and then I'm also going to give
you a finished presentation that I
created in the past. This is something
we build in PowerPoint, and I'm also
going to give you our brand kit that has
our colors and fonts. So, you could also
build these with Claude if you don't
have a brand kit, for example, ask it to
help you build a brand kit through an
interview, and then this is going to
create that. So, I'm going to go ahead
and upload the things that I told it I'm
going to upload. So, this is our sample
presentation. We have our logo and we
have our brand kit. So, I'm going to
upload all of those right here along
with this prompt and send this out.
Okay, so he's created that skill. He's
also given us an example of what that
presentation would look like including
what the final page looks like. I'm
going to go ahead and save that skill to
my account. And now, all I have to do is
just go to new and I'll start a new chat
here. So, I'm going to make a six-slide
presentation about Claude skills. And if
I press the slash sign here, I could
bring in that skill specifically. Now,
again, you don't have to do that. The
only reason I'm doing that is because I
actually have multiple brands, so I have
created this already multiple times and
I don't want it to get confused here.
Okay, and in a couple minutes here, I
got this on-brand presentation, my logo,
my colors, my fonts, exactly how I told
it to make the beginning slide, the
final slide, and these could be exported
as a PDF. I could actually download it,
too. And I could ask it to give it to me
as a PowerPoint. But now, every single
time I make a presentation, it's going
to look like the presentation that I
want, not a random presentation that
Claude decides to create. So, those are
a couple of my favorite skills to create
if you're just starting with Claude
skills. And as I mentioned, that
resource I put together has about 10 or
so of all my favorite skills with the
exact prompt to build it yourself and
actual skill that you could just
download and add to your Claude account.
That will be linked in the description.
Also, Claude projects are another part
of Claude that a lot of people are not
utilizing to their full potential and I
covered that in a complete video right
over here.

The video explains Claude skills, a powerful feature allowing users to create sets of instructions that Claude remembers and applies automatically. It covers how to enable the necessary "code execution" setting and how to create skills using Claude's interview process or specific prompts with examples. Two practical applications are demonstrated: a brand voice writer that ensures all content matches the user's style, and an on-brand presentation builder that generates slide decks with consistent logos, colors, and fonts. The video also mentions a free resource with pre-built skills and prompts for further customization.
