forcing myself to have a life outside my tech job
117 segments
Wake up, work, scroll, sleep. Wake up,
work, scroll, sleep. [music] Lately,
I've been living on autopilot. Working
my tech job by day, and by night, I'm
either cooking, cleaning, or chronically
online. Just [music] kind of existing
before the weekend comes and inevitably
goes. The funny thing is, it's not like
I don't have time. It's that I use it to
revenge scroll and procrastinate. Just
one more episode of Bridgerton and oops,
it's [music] time for bed. Like, what
happened to the life part of work-life
balance? It's scary to admit I don't
[music] really know what life looks like
without autopilot, but it's time I
[music] try to find out.
The other day, I realized I don't really
make much of an effort to find new
places to eat, and I keep defaulting to
the same few places, like Chipotle.
[music]
But today, I thought I'd try a new pho
place I found. Let's see how it is.

>> Okay, I am back in my apartment.
Normally after work, I come home and I
um bed rot for hours scrolling on my
phone, but today I'm not going to do
that. I'm going to try baking. [music] I
literally have never baked in my entire
life. Actually, I lied. I did bake one
time in my high school culinary class,
which I almost failed because the
muffins that I made for my final turned
out like this. Um so, this is my
redemption arc. I've lived in this
apartment for 3 years [music] now, and I
have literally never turned on my oven.
Um
Okay, this looks doable.
Does this count as golden brown?
I hope it's not burnt.

>> Started. Hopefully, I don't burn my
[music] apartment down.
>> [music]
>> First time using an oven, wish me luck.

>> Oh my gosh.
They're becoming [music]
cookies.
Moment of truth.
You [music] must be joking. Oh my
goodness. I made this.
>> [music]
>> We have gathered here today to taste
test this gorgeous chocolate chip
cookie. Cheers.
Oh my
Woah.
>> [snorts]
>> Do you see? It's like crispy on the
outside, but when you bite into it, it's
like perfectly soft, but not too soft.
Genuinely, these are like one of the
best Okay, I'm I'm glazing myself. I
have to give it like an 11 out of 10.
Sorry. I should be disqualified from
judging my own cookie like that. If AI
takes over all our jobs, just know that
I'll be a chocolate chip cookie baker.

>> So, I thought this morning I would do
some journaling. I used to journal a lot
in college. Like, it was the main way I
processed things in my life, but I don't
know. I feel like when I started
working, I just made less and less time
[music] for it. So, this is me making
time.

>> GGP is so beautiful. I have no idea why
I don't come here often. Since I'm
already in the area, I think I'm just
going to go to the ocean. I haven't
really been there in a while.

>> I feel like this setting is making me
reflect a lot. Maybe the journaling
thing got to me a little bit. I feel
like for the majority of my life, I've
just been chasing. Like, I hit a goal,
and then immediately I'm like, what's
next? It worked for me in a lot of ways,
but somewhere along the way, I kind of
stopped being in my life. I was moving
through it, but like not [music]
actually in it. And moments like these,
I've missed a lot of these.

The video follows a creator who realizes they are living on autopilot, trapped in a cycle of working and procrastination. Seeking a change, they embark on a journey to break their routine by trying new experiences like eating at a new restaurant, baking for the first time in their own apartment, and returning to journaling. These small steps lead to a moment of deep reflection at the ocean about the importance of being present rather than just chasing the next goal.
