simple as that. If Arsenal somehow

managed to convince Vinícius Júnior to

give up everything, the lavish

lifestyle, the incredible history of the

Bernabéu Real Madrid to move to North

London, that is game, set, and match to

Arsenal. It will go down as the greatest

signing that has ever happened in the

Premier League era, no doubt about it.

The the The biggest signings as things

stand, I don't even think they come

close. You know, Andriy Shevchenko when

he arrived at Stamford Bridge, it felt

huge. Ballon d'Or, AC Milan, it felt

massive.

But this feels beyond it. Paul Pogba

when he went Paul Pogba back to

Manchester United again, that felt big,

but this feels massive. Vinícius Júnior

will be the most significant. He is

different. Different. He is a superstar.

A a Hollywood footballer, a worldwide

icon, a world-class footballer, a

two-time Champions League winner,

guaranteed product.

20 goals in five consecutive seasons he

has scored in all competitions. Serious

footballer, serious world-class

footballer, and crucially,

26 years old. What are Arsenal playing

at? 26 years old. You are signing

Vinícius Júnior, a world-class superstar

Brazilian talent

at the peak of his powers.

Vinícius Júnior's best days are probably

ahead of him. Vinícius Júnior, the best

football that he will play in his life

will not be pre-26,

and that could all be played in North

London. This is a masterstroke from

Arsenal. If they get this over the line,

it is absolutely brilliant. And it's

terrible news for everyone other than

Arsenal fans. Absolutely awful. The

worst news that you could possibly hear.

If you're a Man City fan, Liverpool fan,

a Chelsea fan, a Tottenham fan, a West

Ham fan, this is terrible. Absolutely

sickening news. This is not the news

that you want. It is shocking news for

me, shocking news for football, shocking

news for the Premier League. And do you

know what? On a very personal level, it

is shocking news for me. You don't want

to hear about my problems, I know that.

But as my luck, I asked my wife to go

and get me some flip-flops. We're going

to be going on holiday. My flip-flops

broke, I need some flip-flops. So, she

goes to the shop, she comes back, and

she's bought me these.

Look at my flip-flops. I go, "What?" She

went, "Oh, yeah, they're a really good

footballer." So, I've been wearing these

flip-flops. I'm like, "What What Right,

why are you buying me flip-flops branded

with footballers? I'm not eight."

And she thought they were nice, so she's

bought me these. Look. I can't wear

these. I'm now going to have to go on

holiday. These are going in the bin. I

can't go on holiday with Arsenal fans

with an Arsenal player on my flip-flops.

Like, this is ludicrous. Absolutely

ludicrous. Does anyone want some

flip-flops, by the way? Cuz they are

going in the bin, mate. Absolutely

sickening. So, this is not a good day.

It's not a good day for anyone. And I

mean, Arsenal fans, this is just unreal.

Absolutely unreal. Can you believe what

is happening here? Off the back of what

felt like 4 years. And I think you'd

agree, if you are an Arsenal fan, I

think you would agree with this. Fairly

underwhelming window. Fairly uninspiring

window so far. I don't think you could

be too excited about the full back,

about Mezut. I don't think it's too

enthralling, particularly when you see

what's been going on elsewhere. Chelsea

been making moves, Tottenham been making

moves. Uh Manchester United been trying

to make, you know. There's a lot going

on. And it hasn't really been happening

with Arsenal. And when you juxtapose

that with what Mikel Arteta said, he

said off the back of being champions, he

wants decisive action in the transfer

market, serious noise in the transfer

market, actual strategy in the transfer

market. And it hasn't come.

We laughed. We mocked. We laughed. We

derided them. We were gloating about our

window. Suddenly, this.

Suddenly, it's game, set, and match,

Arsenal, if they get this over the line.

Suddenly, it is perfection from Arsenal.

This is exactly the kind of maneuver

that they should be making. This is what

you do. This is how you become

one of the greatest teams in the world.

This is how you become European giants.

This is how you become a team that has a

dynasty. This is how you become a team

that retains a Premier League title and

crucially for Arsenal.

This is how you become a team that win

the Champions League. Do you know how

you do it? You You knock on the door.

You create a brilliant team. You get to

a semi-final. You get to a final. You

keep building. You keep trying. And then

you bring in that superstar quality.

Do you know why Chelsea won it in 2021?

Because Thiago Silva arrived at the

club.

That's what did it. There were loads of

reasons, right? Mason Mount. There's

loads of loads of reasons. But the

reason we did it, the crucial reason,

was because of the nous and know-how

that came

with Thiago Silva.

Vinicius Júnior is the difference-maker.

Vinicius Júnior is the player that

Arsenal has been searching for for ages.

Think about all of the players that

Arsenal have tried to sign in that

position. You think of all of the

players that they have that they have

kind of flirted with at various points.

This is the jewel in the crown.

Every single time they've missed out on

a player, it's worth missing out on that

player if you're going to ultimately end

up with Vinicius Júnior.

You know, uh

Obviously, you won the battle here. But

at the time we beat you to Mudryk,

right? We We won the race. You didn't

get Mykhailo Mudryk. You didn't get

Pedro Neto. Remember when you were

linked with Pedro Neto? You didn't get

Pedro Neto. You didn't get Raphinha.

There were so many players that play in

that position, obviously, just now.

Morgan Rogers.

Uh

Uh the guy the the uh Spanish fella.

Williams.

There is a plethora of footballers that

play on that side that Arsenal have been

linked with that ultimately they haven't

got. And maybe you could argue that

that's to their detriment.

Tell you what, if they pull Vinicius

Júnior out of the bag, none of it

matters. None of it matters. If they

pull Vinicius Júnior out of the bag, all

all of that becomes easy to live with,

easy to bear. Because this is different.

And it is exactly what Arsenal should be

doing. They are behaving like champions.

And it's It's good news.

This is even being with Vinicius Júnior.

You know if the if the the deal doesn't

go over the line. Like I just saw on on

social media that José Mourinho is going

to do everything that he can to block

this. I'm choosing to believe that that

is because of his love for Chelsea, when

actually obviously it's for the

furtherance of Real Madrid because

Vinicius Júnior is a class act. So, José

Mourinho is going to do everything he

can to block this, but the significance

of Arsenal even being linked with a

player of this quality, with a signing

of this magnitude, with a price tag of

this value,

do you see what it means? Do you see

what it means for Arsenal? Do you see

what it means for the Premier League?

It's almost irrelevant now whether they

get the player.

Don't clip that. It sounds ridiculous.

You know what I mean though.

The fact that they are now shopping in

this market, the fact that they are now

finding the resource to make Vinicius

Júnior transfer a actually a reality is

music to Arsenal fans' ears. Can they

get it over the line? Can they force

Real Madrid to sell? Can they convince

Vinicius Júnior to move to England? Can

they find the 400 grand a week or

whatever it's going to be? Can they

find the money that it's going to cost

to prize him out of the clutches of José

Mourinho? All of that is to be

confirmed.

My inclination is yes. I think he will

become an Arsenal player. I think

there's very few clubs that can actually

woo him. I think there's very few

leagues that can actually woo him.

And if you are Vinicius Júnior,

I think the proposition of playing for

Arsenal is a tap-in.

The idea of going to Arsenal, being at

the epicenter of a new vision of

Arsenal, walking around the Emirates,

looking at the statue of Tony Adams,

looking at the statue of Dennis

Bergkamp, looking at the statue of of uh

Thierry Henry,

all of a sudden you are going to go,

"If I win this team the Champions

League, which I'm perfectly capable of

doing, the team are like a coiled spring

ready to win the Champions League

already. They were in the final lot for

last year for crying out loud."

If Vinicius Júnior is a difference

maker, there is a chance that he gets a

statue at the Emirates.

Off the back of what he has already

achieved in his career, he's already won

it two times.

He was already probably the best player

in the world the year that Rodri won the

Ballon d'Or.

He has already had a glittering, glowing

career, a superstar.

To then land in London and take a

Champions League to Arsenal for the

first time.

I think the opportunity of that could

just be too much to ignore.

And that's why I think it will happen.

You then got to look at it

through the lens of

the economics. Now, it doesn't come

naturally to me. I talk about the

football. I talk about having a statue

and making history and and the beautiful

game. But,

we now have to try to understand it

through the lens of

economics.

And again, I think it makes sense.

Vinícius Júnior somehow has 1 year left

on his contract.

Real Madrid simply have to sell him

because it's not looking like he's going

to sign another contract.

They need to sign other players. You

know, there's that noise about Rodri. I

know Rodri's unlikely because Florentino

Pérez won the race. It was the other guy

that said he was going to sign Rodri, so

Pérez probably doesn't want to sign him

or whatever the politics is. It's

convoluted.

But,

if Vinícius Júnior is to leave, he will

have to leave this year. They cannot let

him leave on a free next year. It might

suit Vinícius Júnior. Imagine the wages

he'll get if he leaves on free.

But, for football, I think they need to

sell him. For economics, I think they

need to sell him. If Vinícius Júnior's

not happy, he's not the main man there

anymore, rightly or wrongly, he's not

the main man.

If he's looking for a new challenge, if

you think about the clubs that could

offer him that new challenge,

it feels like Arsenal are front and

center of any genuine proposition.

Think about the other clubs. Manchester

City,

5 years ago, it uh made total sense.

Going to Man City now and Rodri might

leave as we just discussed, Bernardo

Silva's gone recently, Kevin De Bruyne

has gone recently, John Stones has gone

recently, and most glowingly,

Pep Guardiola is gone.

Is Enzo Maresca as appealing to Vinícius

Júnior as Pep Guardiola would have been?

I think the answer is no. So, Manchester

City, considering the signings they've

made already, Tsimikas, Doku,

I don't think it makes sense.

There is no other club in Spain. They

would never do business with Barcelona.

I know that.

Italy won't have the money.

Arsenal,

Liverpool, again, they've they spent so

much money last year, it doesn't make

sense. Chelsea, it doesn't really fit

our profile. My God, I'd love it.

It's Arsenal, isn't it? It is Arsenal.

And this is exactly what Arsenal should

be doing. You know when you are

champions,

the way that you then cement your place

as champions, create a dynasty, retain a

Premier League title, something Arsenal

have never done,

retain a title, win a Champions League,

is you go out and you sign

Vinícius Júnior.

It's exactly what you do.

God, this is big, really big. It It

would demonstrate

a power in Arsenal, wouldn't it? It

would demonstrate a power and a

determination in Arsenal

to go out and sign

a 26-year-old who is probably the best

player in the world in his position.

You probably argue maybe Kvaratskhelia

last year, but over the

over the say five years,

over the last five years in that

position, Vinícius Júnior's been the

best player in the world.

It's fair, isn't it?

Over the last 18 months, you maybe argue

Kvaratskhelia.

But he's the second best player in the

world in that position.

I mean, and look at what it would do to

Arsenal. If Arsenal need reinforcements

in a particular position, it's the only

position on the pitch really

where there isn't a world-class option.

Across the back, world-class options.

Goalkeeper, world-class.

Front line,

Saka has his moment. I

It's irrelevant at the moment, but

Vinícius Júnior suddenly elevates that

whole front line. Can you imagine the

player that Saka is

when opposition defenses can't double up

on Saka?

Like you know when it was Saka on one

side and and maybe Martinelli on the

other.

It was very easy for an opposition

manager to make sure that the midfielder

the spare midfielder would Saka is your

priority. Saka is your priority. We

think that our defense can deal with

Martinelli on that side. So you you

double up that side.

Who do you double up on?

You double up on Vinicius probably.

Saka is going to have a blinding season.

If you try and compensate you double up

on Saka what's Vinicius Junior going to

do to you? Score 30 goals a season.

Yeah this is this is serious. Like what

a player he is as well. Yeah people

don't seem to acknowledge it.

Like even in the World Cup people saying

he wasn't very good in the World Cup. It

was clear that goal he scored against

Scotland where he dropped his dropped

his shoulder stopped the ball dead.

Created an empty net. Like he's been at

Real Madrid for 8 years.

Serious player serious footballer.

And I'll tell you what Mourinho coming

out saying that it's it's

it's not what he wants.

I don't know if Vinicius Junior would be

allowed for playing for Mourinho.

Do you remember all that all that what

was his name? Pre- Prestiani?

I just don't think that Vinicius Junior

is going to be particularly enthralled

by the prospect of playing for Mourinho.

And if Real Madrid are going to be

getting that Diamante through the door

then why on earth does Vinicius Junior

stay?

The money that he will make the

opportunity that he will have the life

that he will lead joining

Arsenal.

It's

serious man. It's serious.

So I I think honestly that this deal is

going to go through.

And what a statement it will make for

Arsenal.

This

this for Arsenal is how you build

legacy.

Legacy.

Not ideal.

Not ideal I got to go and buy a new pair

of flip flops either. But I doubt that
